Sir Elton John becomes father via surrogate

Not sure about this. Nothing to do with anything other than his age. 62. Not sure he'll be able to kick a football with his on in ten years time.

Can't help but feel a little sorry for the boy. Seems a very selfish thing to do.

48. I think the idea of the kid having a normal upbringing is out of the question. But then, what' normal nowadays?

Big difference in being born into money and knowing the value of it by earning it. That's another reason why I feel sorry for him.

Exactly, hopefully he has mellowed out a bit with old age! I can just imagine the childs christening!

Which one is the dad ?.

Good question. It was born bald, crying and throwing a tantrum - is that a clue?

I don't agree with having kids at that age, yeah it will be spoilt rotten but come on. I was 23 when I became a dad. He'll be fat old and bald before the child can walk.

OP.

It's a bit late now. You should've raised your objections at the meeting 9 months ago.

Oh wait, sorry. I was getting confused.

It's none of your damn business.

To me that is insanely young. Surely you want to have a life before having kids - uni, work, travel, freedom.

But that's the thing - it's a personal choice.

Is it?

I read it as Elton gets the headline as he is more famous than David....but as to who is the biological father, the post title gives no confirmation.

I agree. But saying it is "none of your business" isn't criticising an opinion - it is an attempt to censor the opinion.
And then to post that you think 23 is too young to have kids is being hypocritical.

Gee, I think I've given you too much credit.

Actually I just thought your opinion was slightly stupid and reacted unthinkingly. I then offered an opinion to another chap. Hypocritical maybe, but nobody's perfect.

Your opinion still strikes me as naive though. Any parent could be accused of being selfish because nobody's situation is perfect in everyway.

Very hypocritical and yes, far from perfect.

In my opinion, to have a child at 62 inhibits you from getting involved in the natural rearing needed by any child.
Therefore, if he hasn't got the best interest o the child at heart, then it may be considered to be a selfish act on his part.

Oh I did have a life, most of it is classified unfortunately. Oh and I had a much better life with 3 children in it and being young enough to enjoy them.

But maybe that's none of your business.

Good for you. But two years out of uni and into a career would've been no time for me to have a kid, let alone travel and enjoy some crazy years.

It would've been unfair on me and them.

Agreed, and I may voice my opinion of it being selfish with those factors as well.
In this case, the only part I am troubled with is the age of Elton, and so I am having an opinion on it. Great how this works isn't it?

Drugs are a legitimate concern although he is apparently clean so debateable.

Emotional instability is another concern.

But...

Why did you mention his sexuality?

Many, many parents are at some point 62 years old.

It's the ones who die from illness and disease in their 40s and 50s that don't provide a parental role.

Correct, but I wouldn't think anyone sane will argue that it is selfish to have a child at 30 because you might die from cancer at 35. That's a strange argument.

At 62, you have the ability to know what you can offer a child.

I agree - the only good parents are either female or male.

But then you get all the hermaphrodites kicking off. Bleeding PC!
