Yes but look at cars to plane ratio. Im not so much worried about it crashing i just hate the turbulence etc. bit of a pain in the *** though having to travel by ferry sometimes

ive been abroad several times in the past but i watched alot of air crash investigation which has now put me off flying for good, its a good programme though. its more the fact that you will more likely die in a plane crash but a car crash you could survive. i might just be scared of dying or dying in such a terrible way.

i remember seeing a program about how a plane works now you mention it, something the size of your hand keeps the plane in the air i think they said.

i flew to amsterdam last year only took about 40 mins, was on edge the whole journey. every little bump and i thought the wing had snapped off X)

things like a bolt on the wing thats lose or a bird flying into the engine could cause major problems, its scary how somrthing so little can affect a big thing. id love to be sat on a beach in greece but theres no chance of that happening.

i would imagine the testing they face ensure it could handle a bird flying into the engine, Most likely happens alot.

I am not very good when flying ( but will do it as i like my hols ) , i hate the taking off and landing most as it amazes me how, with all that luggage, people on board, food etc , but i just keep telling myself thousands of planes are taking off every minute round the world and its not often you hear of one crashing !! Still feel like kissing the ground when i got of a plane though X)

The fear of flying is so totally irrational isn't it, I bet no one on here knows anyone thats been injured on a plane never mind killed (I hope anyway). The chances of it happening are apparently about 1 in 10 million.
I have a fair few family members who refuse to fly and feel for them as they have never been overseas but would love to.
It must be the fact that you are neither in control or on solid ground that makes it seem so dangerous.

I didnt fly for years, and when i finally did, I had about 10 years of happy flying experiences.....

....until last November, where one plane started leaking fuel out of the wing, and the next flight hit a massive storm over the atlantic,(mass hysteria, screaming, diving, rolling etc....)

this year i will be on the ferry.....

Yes, but 1 air crash = 6 deaths, I imagine there are thousands of car crashes that result in nothing more than hurt pride. If your plane crashes and you get out alive, you know you're the chosen one. A Car crash and all you're bothered about is how you're gonna get home now!

but his statement is 12 DIE everyday. not 12 accidents......add those 12 to the loss of limbs, comas, etc......

They fire frozen chickens at engines I believe to test them

the plane i got on with the fuel leak in the wing, had hit a bird as it landed. not life threatening (apart from the bird) but still can do pretty serious damage. dont think that casued the fuel leak though.

yep i have survived a plane crash @ Barcelona airport in 2004.

Our plane was reversing out of it's parking lot and we had a 'crash' with one of them little trucks that ferry stuff around the airports. Not as big as some crashes but still a crash :p

Damaged the wheels which resulted in a 12 hour delay. Believe me, i never want to go through that ever again. Nightmare.

What do i get for being the chosen one......

OK. Maybe I should have clarified that a plane crash is when it falls out of the skies, not getting hit by a van with no one's life endangered.

isnt flying the safest way of travel anyway?
Rather be on a plane than out on certain roads with some of the Sunday drivers that dont know what the hell they are doing.
At least with a plane if its gonna crash you most likely will die with the velocity it will travelling etc that way you wont have to suffer like if you had a horrible car crash lol, kinda morbid I know :p

Used to work in aircraft maintainance. Most aircraft accidents are down to human error be it pilot or maintainance. Aircraft sytems have came leaps and bounds over last 20 years, with every accident providing an important lesson for future avaition safety worldwide.
Statisticaly you are far more likely to die in a car crash travelling to work everday than flying everyday. FACT

I don't mind flying to be honest, not big fan of it but do it because I won't get anywhere otherwise, but there is no way I would get on a plane that size, Manx2 operate from here (isle of man) and having seen their planes, I really wouldn't go anywhere near them as the one time I did fly in something similar I **** myself!
