Skiing in Scotland

I'm sure with the range of people on here there must be a few who have been skiing or boarding in scotland?

I usually would go to france, italy or austria but with the current euro problems i am thinking i might save myself a few bob and go to scotland for a long weekend or something.

Is it a good idea? or does it suck?

Thanks

Been skiing in most 'resorts' in Scotland, its ok, but also been to Italy and France skiing too, would always pay that bit more to go abroad, def worth it.

Im about 2 1/2 hrs away from Nevis range and is good for a day trip but it can be cold and a bit wet which makes the skiing/ snowboarding not so much fun.

A long weekend abroad skiing could cost just as much and be better.......I hate saying that but its true!

Glenshee is most extensive range and when there's plenty snow it is unbeatable but only a couple of chairs rest are drag lifts. I personally would not book ahead as conditions are so unpredictable but a midweek trip (quieter) when ground and forecast conditions are excellent would be very enjoyable. Trouble can be the wind which can close the tows and make the snow drift resulting in evacuation of the area. Lecht has more reliable snow but pretty small ski area. Have not been elsewhere in Scotland. With cheap flights and net bookings I reluctantly recommend you consider Alps but the euro!! That's a different story. I am off to Megeve on 10 January. Links you need for scotland http://ski.visitscotland.com/ then click ski centres tab.

Thanks guys, i'll look at the prices etc see if it is worth it.
Another thing i looked at was the ski train.. basically overnight train to the alps, couple of days skiing, overnight train back.

been on two occasions to scotland (aviemore) and out of 2 weeks, we managed 1 days skiing on thin sheet ice. Never again. Bitterly cold too in a different kind of a way to the Alps where you can ski in t-shirts when the suns out.

Went both times in feb.

Ryanair to Milan (Bergamo) then into the hills from there. I think there are ski coaches you can get from Bergamo to the ski resorts. Yes Euro excahange is cack but if you can get your flights for next to nothing -might be worth investigating.

I drove from Oxford to Scotland last year for a week, only managed 2 runs down the slope before I ran out of snow and wrecked my board on the rocks  Was only person on the red slopes was a school trip on the green slopes, saw my first Snow Hair was magical :)

took me 9 hours to get up there in February we stayed in a little cabin with a real fire in the sticks near Glenshee, was beautiful going again but this time for 2 weeks to make the chance of better snow higher. Really loved Scotland.

Also if you drive watch the salt/grit it ate my exhaust after 3 days it was only 6 months old but one of those cheap ones. Got an exhaust with a 3 yr warranty now.
