Sky 12 Months half Price SKY TV £9.75

I recently cancelled SKY TV and was offered 12 months half price SKY TV. Need to ring 08442 410 591 and quote SkyTV3. £9.75 per month.

This offer I guess is for customer who cancelled recently and not for new customers. Offer ends 26th May 2011.

Good Luck. Abdul

Just called Sky to try and get this and can confirm that it is only for those who have cancelled, didn't apply for me, I did however get 6 months half price! Have some heat as this post prompted me to call them!!

I would love to cancel but can't be doing with the hassle of finding another ISP

Diabeticguy, I think you can try your luck and ring SKY and say you want to cancel and move to Virgin, as they seem cheaper (£12.50). Mention the fact that your neighbour is getting half price SKY. They may cave in and give you some form of discount. Good Luck.

If you don't mind me asking, how long ago did you cancel sky before you gave them a ring? I have given my 1 month notice on Friday, I reckon today would be a bit to early to call?

drmsa, don't panic, I think a similar letter will be coming your way. I was getting phone calls, letters etc regularly. If not, then call them shortly before the 26th i.e maybe on the 23rd May etc and quote them SKYTV3

I did phone and attempt to secure a deal but got nothing. I suggested the competition, but he did a postcode search and said that Virgin was not available in my area so how could they be offering me more than Sky; in fact he then dared me to leave Sky, he actively encouraged me.

diabeticguy, sorry to hear. Have a look at the following post, when Virgin is made available in your areas go in for the kill, this is something I obtained from a separate post on this site:

o getting half price sky forever:

1) Phone and ask to cancel your sky tv. The operator will transfer you to Customer Retentions (the ones that are paid to keep you as a customer).

2) Keep it simple, whatever you do, do not ask them to reduce the cost of your sky package as it won't work, also don't threaten them will leaving if they don't give you a discount.

3) Tell the operator you want to cancel, they will confirm your details etc. The operator will then ask you if there is any specific reason you would like to cancel. Explain to them that you enjoy being with sky but that you got a really good offer in the post from Virgin Media offering you half price tv for 6 months.

4) The operator will then ask you if there is any other reason to which you would say no. The operator will then offer you 6 months half price sky to which you say thanks and end the call.

5) Just before your 6 months runs out phone them back and repeat the above (it doesn't matter if you have the existing offer, they just end it early and begin your 6 months half price again. I usually phone about a week before my offer ends.

THis will work 99% of the time but if the operator calls your bluff then go ahead with the cancellation. You have to give sky a month's notice that you are leaving them and within 2 weeks you will receive a letter from Sky literally begging you to stay and offering you 12 months half price. It's a win win situation

One of my friends is a Team Leader for Sky and it was he who gave me the info. I have been doing this for the past 3 years. I will never pay full price to Sky again. If you get a daft operator then all you have to do is hang up and call back to get someone else.

Anyone who pays full price for Sky tv needs their head examined. This also works if you need an engineer to come out. Anyone who pays for an engineer visit needs to be executed.

A daft operator being one who doesn't do what you want them to?

I feel perturbed at how quickly you would have someone executed

Diabeticguy - There seem to be a few cocky ******* at Sky, I threatend to cancel a few years back and the blokes response was "go on then" so I did and then asked for the complaints dept, he subsequently crapped himself and was very nice to me. After complaining I got a free HD box, half price HD pack and my old box wired into the conservatory for free!

All ISP will take over your line, worst case scenario will be a new BT line installation, which then the new ISP i.e SKY will then manage. They will never turn down a new customer.

So this works even though you agree to a 12 month contract on the first 6 months discount?

I need my head examined then. Sadly for me there is no alternative where I live, so Sky has me by the dangly things.

Any chance of Haggling VirginMedia's price down? or is it just with sky

cis_groupie, all is not lost. Just go ahead with the cancellation and within the 30 day notice period, you will get someone calling you back. Explain to them that you needed to cut back due to financial reasons. You should be offered half price package. Good luck

I phone up today to cancel for my mother in law and was offered a free sky hd box (she only had sky+) and install half price package for 6 months plus £103 credit on my account. All she has to pay is £10.25 for the HD pack but the £103 credit covers that....RESULT!

Thanks for the advice. However, I tried that - they just said "Goodbye!". That's why the Sky is now in my wife's name. At least we got cashback that way, as she is a 'new' customer (_;)

Well, I just phoned them, on the phone for 5 mins. Cut my TV bill down from £51pm to £25.50pm for 6 months. Still paying £10pm for HD, plus broadband & phone line, but saving over £25 a month ain't too bad....

Kyleg44, I never tried haggling with Virgin but you could use SKY as an excuse and claim they will give you half price for 6 months. good luck

kyleg44, It would not hurt to see what SKY are charging for an equivalent or similar package. Then ring Virgin and say that SKY are offering a similar package for half price (6 Months) and hence you would like to change to SKY. I think you get two weeks to cancel the Virgin contract from date of installation, otherwise you are trapped in a 12 month contract. Good Luck

Anyone that calls a sky dish monkey an engineer needs to be publicly humiliated. (serious)
