Sky card, help required please

Has anyone has any knowledge of Sky cards please?

My mum has just moved to Portugal. The property has a TV with a Scotland Sky card, she has just rung me and asked me to get her one for the Midlands (Central I assume)

She said you buy the card but then don't have to pay Sky

Not having Sky I haven't a clue what she's on about

It's a worry when your retired parents are more clued up on modern technology than you are!

I do!

What your after is a "freesat from sky" card £20 each. Will get you all the bbc/itv channels, channel 4, e4 etc etc.

Channel line-up here http://www.freesatfromsky.co.uk/

DO NOT tell them it's for viewing abroad though!!

To get one with midland bbc/itv regions you have to have the postcode registered at a midlands address. I'd advise getting one delivered to you, post it to her then get her to phone to get it activated and get her to change the address to a midlands address. (Unless your address is in the midlands and she won't have to change the address again)

if she wants the card for SKY uk but to use it in portugal, then she is very wrong
http://storesatellite.com/catalog/ you will see that it states,
Due to the licensing arrangements between Sky TV and the various film companies, Sky TV can only officially be subscribed to by residents of the UK and Ireland.
Residents of other European countries need to subscribe for one of our sky viewing cards via Sky Cards for Europe, who will arrange subscriptions using UK addresses.
We are Europe's No.1 sky cards dealer for domestic and commercial customers and offer a one stop shop to customers that require a Sky subscription, sky viewing cards, or a Free To View (FTV) card. We supply Sky cards to Hotels, Yachts & Motor cruisers , guest houses and individuals .

i am geussing she wants full sky rather then freesat as dishes are everywhere out there and can easily pick up the uk channels,

The fact that she only wants a new card because the current one is 'scotland' and she wants one for 'the midlands' made me think she's happy with the channels and just wants the correct regions of bbc/itv.

Yes that sounds right, the previous owners were Scotish and Mum is from the midlands

could be true m8, but then she can tune all the other regions in just by adding the extra channels

Yep, a £20 should do the trick then. You've got a week to send it back if it's not for you.

Tell her to put the tv off and go outside its sunny in portugal!!

Thanks for your help on this

Is this something she can do with the existing card then?

Too true but apparently it's cold in the evenings!

A third option would be to get the scottish people to phone up and change their address to her midlands address.

No purchase necessary.
