Sky deals for existing customers (NOT)

I read on the forums that if you try to cancel, Sky will try and talk you out of it and give you maybe half price for 3 months etc.

We I was fed up paying £38 pm ffor 7 years with access to just one TV (admittedly movies, national Geographic, UKGold etc.) but only on 1 TV. So.... I rang them up to cancel. i was passed from pillar to post until I evenyually got a Guy who was the "last guy & had all the offers". He tried to talk me out of cancelling alright, but only "offered" to reduce payments by reducing my package - i.e. No Offer!

SO I cancelled! (out of principle you know!). No more Sky from May - Where did I go wrong????????

Did you mention that you had been offered a deal with virgin media that has two digiboxes?? That would certainly have shown them what you wanted.

Ive found the same thing to be honest. Clearly they know a fair percentage are just bluffing.

Best time to do this is in June when their accounts are getting prepared for the shareholders. Thats the time they fall over themselves. (At least it was last year, when you could have got a sky+ box for £49 or HD for £149 and half price on ANY package for 12 months.) Doubt that one will come up again - but bet they wont be letting people walk away like they are now. Thing is, with freesat around the corner, they really should be waking up.

| mentioned Freesat etc and the guy didn't budge. He said he 'Guaranteed' there were NO subscription deals and hadn't been for 4 years.

Sort of glad I've cancelled as most chanels are repeats from 6 months ago in mainstream TV but miffed the guy was happy for Sky to walk away. I have probably given them around £3,000 since I have been with them. Hurry up FreeSat:x

The benefit is if you were to say go on to Virgin Media, you can negotiate a package before you commit so atleast thats a + from all that if you want TV back

Its a Satellite broadcast which is in competition to Sky buy is not available yet but said to be just round the corner http://www.freesat.co.uk/home.php and offers HD & multiroom with just the purchase of a box (you can use your existing satellite dish). :-D

We'll there you go. Pretty much sums up that they are lying SOBs. I'd probably have asked if he was new or just now senior enough to deal with you. (If you are getting nowhere, might as well have a dig!)

Alternatively have you considered the "other" freesat? ie Foreign stuff in English? ie Just get a flashed Technomate receiver which will give you untold film channels and live premier footie! Its one of those grey areas. Its technically not broadcast for us - so no theft of subscription takes place (since you couldnt pay if you wanted to legally!) Film channels are usually newer than sky box office - and pretty much 4 or 5 choices of live footie every sat and sun!

why dont you just go back to sky, all the other services are attempts to be the new sky.
if you want all the good stuff it is on sky.
go by quidco and sign up with sky agian becuase i think they give 3 months free for new customers and quidco is not bad either.

1. Whats wrong with alternatives - especially if its free? Don't see any reason to blindly support monopolies that dont give a damn for loyal customers.
2. What is so good thats being shown on sky at the moment?
3. Quidco and sky are notoriously bad trackers - and where do you get this "3 months free" bit from for new customers (which the OP isn't anyway.)

not sure about number 3 as i have never done sky and quidco
to the rest- i am a sky customer and i always get half price sky movies and sportor free sky movies and sports every few months.
if your refering to skysat- well then unless it has sky sports and movies, then not intrested in it. even if it does have sky sport and movies- it will be pretty expensive compared to the sky packages.
the only thing i agree with you here is that sky is a monopoly- a very harsh big monoploy just like ebay. but everyone still uses is becuase all the rest are 2nd best

Not quite sure how you manage that!

I dont even know what skysat is! As for everyone else being second best, thats just not true. At least for films and sport thats the case.

Like I said, upto 5 live Premiership games per day at the weekend to chose from (obviously dependant on the days the games are played.) How many would you get from sky - particularly without paying a further hit on subscriptions?

The film channels on sky are awful. PPV are a lot better - but who wants to pay a fiver a hit. The film channels I refer normally show newer films than skys PPV.

But granted, I cant get sky one without a sky package - which is pretty much the only sky channel I "need".

yeh, the fact that some channels are not on other providers is big issue. hence why sky is a monoploy. the main reason why i need sky sport is becuase of wrestling- and sky sports is the only channel to show wwe as they have some long term contract for it. other then that sky sports is not all that becuase you can get all the footy on other channels aswell.

I, too, tried to wrangle a better deal out of Sky but got no joy, so cancelled in the hope of being asked back - no joy, but my wife signed up in her name a month later, via quidco, so we at least got Sky+ for free (& the old box is now upstairs).
#21
you dont need to tell sky you are going to cancel i ring them every time one of my offers is about to finish and have had helpful staff on the phone give me deals, i just look up what offers are on or see an advert on tv for an offer and ring up tell them i want that offer and they do it, currently i have free multi room for 12months free sky go, half price broadband and hd at 2.50 per month for 12 months, even if an offer is for new customers i still ring as a loyal customer i expect to be treated as well as the new ones and i have :)

If he ain't had a call-back from the retentions department by now I don't think it's going to happen.
