SKY Email problems

Hi All,

I hope someone can help me...

I am with SKY for my Broadband, and recently, they have modified their email servers. I knew nothing of this, other than that I can no longer send emails.

Although I am with SKY, I have been using my old NTLWorld account, from within Outlook 2000. SKY have now blocked sending emails from any accounts other than their own.

Fair enough - I'll have to use my SKY email account from now on. Problem is, no matter what I do, I can't set it up to work in Outlook 2000. When I emailed them about this, they said I'd have to consult the help files for how to do this(!)

Can anyone help? I'm getting an error message saying:

"The POP3 server responded with an error. Server response: '200 mx.google.com ESMTP<random number>'. (Account: 'Helen (Sky)', POP3 Server: 'pop.tools.sky.com', Error number: 0x800ccc90).

I've been onto my SKY email via the internet, and enabled POP Forwarding. I've entered my username with the sky.com at the end, and without... and nothing I do will work...

Can anyone help!? Cheers!

That was gonna be my next question, it I can't get this sorted out, haha!

I don't mind having to change my email and use the SKY one, but I hate having to use the internet based things. If I can just get the SKY one to work in Outlook, then I'll be happy.

There must be a way.....

open you your outlook express, go to tools, accounts, mail.properties, servers and check what your pop3 and smtp incoming and outgoing mail servers are set at
They should be configured to your isp. If that dont work sometimes back on the mail tab, click remove then add-mail.You will then get a email set up wizzard.Add your account back using the details of the account you wish to use.Making sure you have correctly put in the corresponding server adds.

Done that - they are now set to the new ones:
pop.tools.sky.com and smtp.tools.sky.com

I'll give this a try...

Well... I deleted it all and re-added. Now I'm getting a different error message:

Unable to Connect to the Server : pop.tools.sky.com

Just checking the SKY website now - I may have to change the numbers for my outgoing ports...

best thing to do is go on sky support site and get the both mail servers.

OMG! I've got it to work!!!

Thanks to this website . I needed to change the POP port to 995, and tick Secure, and the SMTP port to 587.

Also, needed to tick the box within the Servers tab to say My Account Requires Authentication. Also, you need to enter your username with the @sky.com on the end, and as posted by someone above, you need to go to your Sky email on the Internet, and enable POP forwarding.

What a carry on! Will leave rep to all those that tried to help/helped!

Really appreciated! Thanks guys!!

Well, when I sent them a message via the SKY Contact Us form on their website, saying I could no longer send emails from my NTL account, and couldn't send or receive from my SKY account, I got this response:

"......For assistance with setting these up in Outlook 2000, please refer to your help files, or Microsoft. I trust this helps however should yo u continue to experience technical difficulties, please reply to this email ....."

Unbelievable!!
