Sky getting v expensive and think we need to cancel - do they offer you discounts?

I just called Sky to terminate our contract (we have multiroom and 2 sky + boxes). Subscription nearly £50 a month and one of our boxes is on the way out. We just can't afford it. The guy I spoke to said we could have a free service call and offered half price multiroom for 6 months. Nice gesture but it isn't really going to make much of a difference. Do sky offer better then this is you threaten to cancel? We still can't afford £45 a month so just wondering. Thanks

I would imagine that they could do better than that,if you tell them what you think is a good price then sometimes they can give you an idea of what they can do.

Cancel your multiroom that's £10 per month saving, get broadband and telephone with Sky and you get better discounts. Does your monthly cost include the telephone line rental?

i emailed them this morning also to cancel our multi room as we have three extra and cannot afford it just now so i,m waiting on a call back and they normally give you a good deal but with setanta away maybe they wont.

They always give in at the bitter end, we got as far as having the cable service installaton date pencilled in and they rang with a suitable deal, hang on in there and let them know you are serious.

if you cant afford it why dont you just have it in 1 room instead of 2?

in fact if you cant afford it get freeview

If they wont offer you a discount Sky do their own freesat service (over 200 channels).

No montlhy fee and if you already have the equipment it only costs you £20 for a card (one off payment). There is no monthly fee.

http://www.freesatfromsky.co.uk/

Ignore the money figures on the home page of the link above, that is for people who do not have Sky dish and box already.

If you already have them it is only £20 (per card?) (see the FAQs).

you say you cant afford 45 quid? how much can you afford?

i know what u are saying.....u are after getting your current package with a massive discount

aint gonna happen..... theyve offered you something but that isnt enough

how about compromising....less channels ,less boxes for less money!

£5 off a £50 package is not sufficient to stop us cancelling. If we can't afford £50 we can't afford £45. I just wanted to know what the norm was as I can get pretty much similar package for half the price (bar the sport- which is why my husband has this in the first place)

Then you've been paying for a luxury you can't afford. The only options available to you are to either just cancel the lot or reduce the package to one which suits your budget.

This is what I would do, or am I missing something here?

I have just threatened to cancel Broadband all the channels sky + and the phone. As I have been having some problems with my sky+ box. I was offered a free upgrade to Sky HD, Relocate my New Sky+ box to the bedroom, 25% of my total monthly bill for 6 months and £50 compensation for my trouble. installing it on Sunday.

When I cancelled I used the website and was answered the next day.:p

To be fair though, that's more of a compensation package, rather than a retention package. I doubt anyone would get that if they hadn't been having problems with their sky.

but... Lucky you! well done... lol

Do you have broadband with sky? I'm paying £5 a month with sky, which is cheaper than most others as far as I can tell. If you're paying more, cancel your existing broadband and take up sky's hence getting a saving elsewhere.

Another thing to add - I phoned to cancel last year and threatened to go elsewhere, can't remember where tho. They ended up offering me free telephone line rental for a year, which is over £120 saving anyway. I think if you're going to threaten to cancel, you should do a bit of research and find the alternatives out there, that way they know you're serious, and that way you're more likely to get a decent deal out of them...

Maybe I'm missing the point of the thread as well, but surely if money is tight, the first things to go would be the luxury items in your life, and paying £50 for the crap they show/repeat all the time on Sky is an unnecessary luxury imo.

When our wee boy was due, I simply cancelled Sky and don't pay anything as I kept the box and card and now watch whatever is free to air.

It's a big saving and something you should seriously consider.
