SKY HD Box Cables etc...

My son has given us his practically unused Sky HD box and we are probably going to upgrade to HD pretty soon. There are no cables or leads with the box and I have no idea what leads/cables I need to connect to the TV. Anyone care to enlighten me.......also advise on where to purchase and cost of said items?

thanks xx

What sort of TV have you got

Is it a LCD/Plasma with HDMI connections

Or have you a CRT TV with Scart

Although a lot of the LCD/Plasma TV's have scart sockets?

Are you looking to use this in place of your existing Sky/Sky+ box? If so, you'll need to call Sky Customer Services to get your existing card 'paired' to the new box. They'll talk you through what information you'll need...

In which case all you need is an HDMI and an AC power lead!

AC power lead will be the same as used for the PS2 , Xbox 1, some older Sky boxes so you may have one around.

Wikinsons are doing 2m HDMI cables for £2.99 at the moment which would do the job nicely if you have one nearby. Apart from that, most supermarkets do them but don't go mad and buy an expensive one, you don't need to.

The HD service is 9.99 extra a month though!

I have just ordered the HD box as an upgrade from Sky +, im not sure if they take your old sky+ box away (although i dont think it would apply to you though)

If your tele is 1080p then you will certainly notice a very big difference when a HD signal is put in

not at all it still deffinately makes a huge difference the sky hd sd channels will look a lot better due to being upscaled ,just flick from sky sports 1 to sky sports hd 1 when a match is on the difference is sublime, no mosquitos nothing ,thats the biggest difference for me the football some other stuff just looks upscaled but some stuff comes out at you especially the animated stuff.you wont regret it i didnt

just had a look and its def 1080p......as I am the only female in this house the amount of sport on our TV is ridiculous  so at least the men here will be happy. Thanks for the info x

It's worth mentioning that the freeview channels that broadcast in HD (BBC HD, Channel 4 HD, etc) are FREE and you don't need to pay £10 a month for them.
