Sky HD Box Phone line needs to be connected all the time?

I've just ordered Sky HD with the box and etc. We've currently just got a normal Sky Digital box. The gentleman on the phone said we need to have a phone line connected to it constantly and the phone line must be within a 10metre distance. I ordered it and then spoke to my dad about it and he said he didnt want any wires to be running around our walls and etc as we have just decorated and etc.

So my question is do you need to have it connected to the phone line at all times? Or just at the beginning to activate the box? I've read several conflicting reports online.

    Thanks a lot mate. So I guess it all depends on the engineer who comes to install it. I've read some are really fussy and some do not give a crap

    as some on here know my bro is a sky engineer. you dont have to have the line connected to the box all the time. only if you have multi room as sky can charge you extra if both boxes are not connected to the same line as you could have given the card or box to a friend. when the engineer has gone you can, if you wish dis connect the line. x

    Are you putting the box in yourself, it's only a case of swapping the boxes over then giving them a ring.

    ive got 2 hd boxes and never plugged mine in,but i do know i should have at least one plugged in or im liable to be billed for 2 subscriptions,and i do know sky call the box to make sure its plugged in as they dont want people taking the boxes and setting them up in someone elses house,maybe ive just been lucky,its a case of do u feel lucky punk.

    We had ours unplugged for a short while, having had it for 5 years. We then started to receive letters telling us we would be charged full price for all 3 boxes (instead of multi-room discount).

    We are getting it installed on Sunday. I read that you can only install the box if you previously had sky+ installed

    we have just had sky hd installed. My white phone wire was snapped off the last one as we had to have our phone line redone and was never realy put in the box. Anyway the blok asked ifi wanted a new one done and i said i never used it so i wasnt bothered and he said ok thats fine so i guess not :)

    Yes I think its just when you have multiroom they should both be connected to the phone. We got a letter from Sky when one of the boxes wasn't connected to the phone line but its all sorted out now.

    had sky+hd for 12 months, didnt have it plugged in once.

    only time was when the engineer updated the box firmware.
    so no unless you want to watch PPV or something

    Nope ive never connected mine to the phoneline - supposidly its a breach of contract but im out of it anyways !!

    I think its only when ordering things or interactive you need it for. We haven't had ours plugged in for 12months plus. When we phoned sky to make sure it was ok, they spouted some rubbish about having to pay a one off £25 fee or re-connect it. Anyway we fobbed them off, and never paid the fee or reconnected. So just don't let them try and make you pay.

    if not they will send you about 3 letters asking you to plug it in..And then charge you an extra £40
