Sky+ does NOT come with HD as standard.

You have to get a HD box from Sky, and pay an extra £10 a month to watch HD.

I doubt threatening to cancel will get you an upgrade to a Sky HD box (but maybe it will to a Sky+ box)

Is it worth it???

The only channels are BBC1, Sky1, and I think Ch4. Everything else will look the same.

Sky + is seperate to HD, you need a completely new box, about £199 plus the £10 a month subscription all for a couple of channels.

The normal Sky gives an improved picture of 576i if connected correctly through scart which for the moment is probably good enough, at least until 2012 when more freeview HD channels become widely available. I would stick to a decent upscaling dvd player for watching movies in HD or a PS3 if the kids are up to that yet and wait for the HD box.

There are currently 14 HD channels to choose from: Sky One HD, Sky Sports HD (2 channels), Sky Movies HD (2 screens), Sky Box Office HD (2 screens), Sky Arts HD, National Geographic HD, Discovery HD, The History Channel HD, Luxe TV HD, Channel 4 HD and BBC HD.

You get Sky+ with the HD service.

So, £17 +£10 a month for 12 months = £324.

H'mmm.

Freesat (No, not Freesat-from-Sky) is just launching. The lineup looks similar to Freeview and, if we are to believe the BBC, will include some HD channels.

You'll need a new box, which should work with the existing LNB and $ky dish.

Set-top boxes are available in Currys, Comet, Argos etc., now, but currently limted to receivers only. It's early days yet so wait a few months for the launch to complete and a fuller range of hardware to appear, including twin tuner PVRs

A new Freesat PVR is going to be in the region of £200-300, so break even time is likely to be les than a year of not subscribing to Sky.

The poster only has 2 mixes and so does not have and is probably therefore not interested in Movies and Sports so my post is correct. Unless they are going to upgrade to the full package, and even then it's not worth the cost or so called improvement of Sky HD.
