no i think they only send out cards to customers who purchase a package.

last i heard, it was £20 for a freesat card but that was a while ago. It may have changed now.

Remember that your friend also needs a sat dish.

You dont actually need a card, the only thing a card does is add ITV and channel 5, you can do this yourself without a card by programming it manually.

Add channels (services 4 4 on sd boxes)

Put in the following parameters for C5:

10773
Horizontal
22.0
5/6

let it scan, select Five, save changes back up then view it through Other channels (services 9 on my sky+ box)

Same for ITV HD but use

11428
Horizontal
27.5
2/3

and save service 10510

If there is no sat dish then yes she will need one, if theres one there you are good to go, I bought another dish from ebay a couple of weeks ago as I needed to add more connections and the original is hard to get too due to being over a carport, it was £24 with a quad lnb (allows four connections to it rather than standard single) 20 meters of shotgun cable (two in one) and all brackets and clips and next day delivery, a sat finder was a fiver.

I ended up with an improvement over the sky fitted dish as that was 80% signal 60% quality, mine was 80% on both.

Without a card channel 101 gives you BBC 1 London and channel 103 is ITV 1 Central. You can watch other regions via "other channels" as previously explained.

If that proves too inconvenient you can get a card for £25 that will give you the correct regions and let you watch Five on channel 105. The white cards are called "Freesat From Sky Viewing Cards". For details of how to order see:
