I can anyone help...I already have sky installed and am thinking of having sky+ (hubby wants it for the rugby) but does anyone know if I have to change my satellite dish? I have had the dish of about 8 years and any worried that its not compatible etc, also when it rains we always loose our satellite connection (sometimes for 24 hrs at a time), would sky+ sort this out,
Any help is appreciated as I don't want to pay for something that's going to cost me more than I originally thought.

Sky+ needs two wires coming in from the dish. You need (assumin' you only have the one box) a minimum of a dual LNB; that's the bit on the end of the external dish stalk, where the wires plug in. My ma for example has a quad LNB and most recent installs will.

If i were you, if you've been with Sky for a while, i'd ring and ask to cancel. You'll go thru to retentions. They'll charge you £65 to come out and fix your dish, you say, can't afford it, i'm off and they'll waive it if you're a good customer.

Once that is sorted, the same call, they *might* offer you Sky+ for £50 all in, with a 12 month all in warranty. They did all of the above when my ma's sky has issues recently but we declined the + for now......

:) You're very welcome, thank you, for saying thank you :giggle:

It's easy honest, just be calm, and firm and Sky will do all they can to keep you, like i say, esp if you've been with them a few years, and that can be 2 years or more really.

Good luck :)

Been with them for 10 years, No cable in our street so can't move to another provider.

Sky have a set number of retention deals they can do and they start from Wednesday so that' the best day to ring as they'll definately be able to do something for you.

Once you get Sky+, you gonna wonder how you lived without it!

Best thing to do would be to call up cancellations and say that you and/or your partner work shifts and so you are missing most of the programmes you would watch anyway, and it is therefore not worth paying for sky.

They should then suggest sky+ - say that you dont have the money to pay for the box or installation at the moment, and they should offer you it for £49 or some people (including me :)) have been offered it for nothing!

While the engineer is out, tell him the problem with the dish and ask if he can fix it :) most of them will

Yep, i got my 2nd one for nothing as we have multi-room. I didn't even ask for one. I only rang to cancel the movies. :w00t:

p.s - I kept Movies for an extra 24hours and rang back the next day and cancelled them. :giggle:

Sorry £10 a month, Sky don't give much away for nothing..

Also to the OP, if your Sky goes off when it rains, your dish needs re-alignment.

If you call up to cancel your service they will offer it for £49 installed, and if you keep on trying then you will end up with it free (like I did!)

There are loads of free channels on Sky, OK they may not all be quality channels, but all of the BBC and ITV etc. are free to view.

I wouldn't pay Mr Murdoch one penny piece.
