Hey all, can someone shine a light on this for me!! Or a satteLIGHT?? See what i did there??

Anyhoo, I have had sky + HD for over a year now, not had a problem. The new watch and g.o.l.d channels have come on and the signal is a bit poor, channel 5 is also bad. But I just paid extra for the films, and I cant see them. the signal is very bad. When I check the signal, its normal. Whats going on?!!!

Could you not ring sky and get them to come out and check it?

I sometimes lose signal when it rains and have heard it may be because the larger LNB I installed for multiroom and Sky+ may require the zone 2 60cm dish.

Any trees in the line of sight between your dish and satellite?

It's probably a bit a water that has got into the connection on the LNB. I suffer from this periodically. Unscrew the "F" connector on the LNB and cut the cable back a little, make good and screw the connector back on. Reseal the connection with amalgamating tape.

Try this first before calling out a satellite installer as they'll charge you the earth to do it!

i see what you did there. you made a pun on satellite and light, but spelt satellite incorrectly.

bet you meant satelLIGHT? or sateLIGHT?

When you say the " signal is normal " exactly what are the readings?

i think it says strength is like 3 quarters, and quality is half.

something like that.

This happened to me a couple of years ago and it turned out to be a faulty LNB receiving some frequencies. (although i lost Sky News and a couple of documentry channels.)

May be worth a call to Sky. :)

OK, quality is far more important than strength, half quality could well be the cause of your problems.

You need to get the dish checked/re-aligned to effect a cure.

Also any obstructions like trees etc in the " line of sight " will cause problems.

All the signals come from different transponders, in groups of channels. From what you've said your dish needs either re-alligned or just tightened up.

If it's under warranty get Sky to fix it, otherwise a local engineer would probably be less costly.

If you were getting a poor signal on your Box Office film phone Sky and they should refund you for the film, but probably not for loss of viewing from the other channels.

We had problems with the signal a few years ago due to trees, they wanted to charge us for an engineer to call. When we said we would just cancel they moved the dish free of charge. It's worth a try.
