Sky keeps freezing. Anyone know the best way to align the dish?

My sky keeps freezing and chopping. I put the dish up myself but it has been fine until recently.

Do I buy a signal strength meter or are the compasses any good?

I don't fancy just randomly moving the dish until it gets better although I seemed to get it right in the first place(luck?)

Couldn't be anything to do with the box could it?

where is your cable running?we had to run ours over the roof as we live in a terrace,he cable has had to be replaced twice due to it rubbing on the roof causing rain to get into cable making our sky freeze etc.i saw one of them signal kits today in b&q for £9.99

before worrying about the cable or dish alignment have you forced a software download?

Go in the setup menu and look for signal strength.

You can use this as a meter when you make slight dish adjustments.

The cable runs from the back of the house and I've drilled through the walls to bring it to the front. I've checked the cable and it appears to be ok so I thought maybe the dish might have moved slightly. Think the signal kit might be the way forward. Bit strange though, the picture is fine again now:?

Thanks:thumbsup:

My Sky+ recently had problems with freezes. When I phoned sky they got me to reset the LNB from within the installer menus. Has been fine since.

Yes that's what I did in the first place, just thought it would be easier to check the signal while I'm up there?

Signal strength is about halfway now. Quality is about a quarter:whistling:

Can you remember how to do the reset guv?

We had the same problem with our sky. Went on for days then I tried switching it all off completely for about ten minutes then back on again and its worked fine since.!!

you do the reset by simply going into the installer menu and turning off the power to the lnb.

signal quality down to a quarter is bad. strength should be as high as possible and quality at least half but preferably around 3 quarters

I had the same problems too. Phoned up, told them I was going to quit the service because of it. They sent out an engineer who gave me a new skybox and a complete reinstallation.
