Sky Phone Line advice

Hi, currently we have a Sky + box with the World package, and a normal Sky box wired to the bedroom with just a ftv card, but wanted to get it upgraded to multiroom, however the nearest phone line is in the next bedroom, and to be honest, don't want all the hassle of dragging a cable to the phone line from one side of the house to the other

Will Sky therefore refuse to issue a card if I won't connect to a phone line?

Thanks

I had the same problem. You only need to connect the phone line when the extra box is first installed so it can be setup. So i just used a phone extension so the bloke could do his thing. I've not had a phone line plugged into my Sky+ ever since (9 months ago) and it works fine

We did the same, when they came to install the box the phone socket is quite a distance so the installation guy just put a long cable down over the carpet which we said we would sort out properly ourselves later. Once he went we just unplugged it, never been in since.

It is in the T&C's though that your supposed to have it plugged in all the time:

'Your Sky box(es) must be connected to a fixed telephone line for 12 months and Sky selects your equipment.'

I've never had my SKY box connected to the phone line, not even when it was installed.

Well phoned Sky up today to try and get multi-room, put through to a guy, basically said without it been connected to a phoneline there was nothing I could do, and if it isn't connected to one I would have to pay full price, as they can't detect the box, and it's a requirement to get the discounted multi room rate blah blah

So just got them to send a blank card out, presume I'll just have to get a phone cable whilst they programme the card then remove it, very annoying though even tough it's part of the T&C I know 2 people who both have Sky multiroom, but no phone line connected

Also told that they give you 2 callbacks a month which is another reason you must have it connected

I have sky multiroom and dont have it connected to a phone line.
I have had the multiroom box ages ago and then when my lodger moved out turned it off then decided it would be nice to have in my bedroom so rang them up and asked about getting it moved and they wanted to charge £60. I looked at where the wire was and realised it was just dropped through from roof space into a fitted wardrobe so got Dad to drill a hole in my ceiling and we poicked it back up and dropped it into my room. It didnt work initially so I rang sky to get some help and check it had been turned back on and said is it becasue it is not plugged into a phone line and they said no it doesn't have to be plugged in they turn it on at the dish remotely. not through the phone line. I needed a new scart lead doh!

But it seems if you are looking for a deal or cheaper prices it is worth ringing a few times as it seems to dsepend which person or department you end up with what they have to offer you.

I was informed about multiroom light which apparently is all sky channels except for the films/movies if you have the film/sports package on your main subscription, however when I rang back having decided to take the multiroom light they had never heard of it and then rang back again and was told it was not available to me and so it continued with a different story each time.

Sky Multiroom is looked on far more strictly than a normal Sky Installation, the phone line connection is to stop the second receiver being used at a different address.

The consequencies of not keeping it connected to a phone line are strictly enforced by Sky, check their T&C's very carefully.
