no point having ANY card unless you take on the sky multiroom - sky can supply you with a 2nd sky+ box if you want (prob as cheap as ebay; if not free(!) if you beg about being with sky for ages / loyal customer yadda yadda yadda)
multiroom gives you all the functionality of your sky+ package on a second box.
the rub is, they BOTH have to be connected to the telephone (to ensure you havn't just given it to a neighbour!)
costs £10p/m extra - again, see if you can negotiate a few months free 'to try it out'.
phone them with the attitude, I don't need this at £10p/m but i'm willing to try it out- what can u do for me?

good luck!

so both boxes have to be connected to the phone line yeah?
as the one we have at the moment isnt connected to the phone line so it might cause issues.

I have sky for years and never had the phone line attached to the box, saying that I have just switched to Virgin as for all in it is £20 cheaper a month and their on demand (sky anytime) is far superior, the only problem I have with the virgin box is there is no text service but then the sky+ box is mine and just acts a freeview box.

think about it from skys point of view... whats to stop you taking out a multi room subs. worth £50p/m then just passing the 2nd box to your mate/relative.
they have to make sure both boxes 'phone home' from the same number.
i think it is a condition of multiroom this HAS to happen.
phone them - start asking about it. they'll love to take an extra tenner of you every month! (but as i mentioned before - give them the attitude that you're really not that bothered about it and whats in it for you. you could get a free sky+ box and a few months with no extra charges! no harm in asking!

here and by the way - phone about sky HD if you dont have it already (it doesnt sound like it...)
you will be flowed down a predictable line of keeping your existing sky+ box as a second multiroom box and getting a new sky hd box for free (I think!) if u upgrade and take on a multi-room with your old equipment.
btw, i dont work for sky - but do have sky HD with no sports and movies and my fave visual entertainment at the mo is bt vision! (its like 100's and 100's of box sets on demand!) sorry to go off on a tangent there but getting caught up in the multiroom thing!

anyway - give 'em a call see what you can get - thats it!

sky might tell you that they need to be plugged into the phoneline but my first box has not been plugged into the phone line since i got it 5 yrs ago and my second box was only plugged in by the installer for a second for verification and has'nt been plugged in since.

thanks gues

they advise it does need to be plugged in, but they say that about the first box and that never has

any one know a sky guy

aparantly they test to see if it is connected to the phone line once a month if not "they can" in there terms bill you for 2 contracts.
#13
If you have a single box (standard, + or hd) and had it installed by Sky, you *probably* in their terms, had in installed at a discount.
You enter into a 12 month contract and have to have it connected to the phone line. They rarely if at all test
If you have multiroom, they want and insist on both boxes permanently being connected and WILL test. We had loads of grief over this and turns out we had, number with-held on the landline and had to change the boxes settings.
There will be those that will say, well i have multiroom and we have never connected or had the letter; they're lucky and i'd hazard a guess, in the minority

Just use you old sky card in the box upstairs and you will get the freesat channles, thats what we do, you dont have to have it plugged into the phoneline either.

Yes thats true but we dont use Sky+ bit , you will have to pay £10 to use that which isnt worth it for us.

No, you need to pay Sky at least £10 a month to use those facilities.
