Not for what you'd want it for.

You need to change the LNB on the dish so you can have 2 feeds going into your Sky+ box (watch one channel, record another - or record 2 channels simultaneously).

You also need to pair your existing card to the box & I think you need the Sky+ functionality turning on at the Sky end (it's free, so dont worry).

Best bet is to phone SKy to cancel & see what they offer you. I got a free Sky+ box & free installation

Quick answer no.
U will need another line from your sky dish and will have to inform sky that u want sky+.

Why can't he just replace the old box with the new one?
He didn't ask if he could use both.

He's going from a standard box to a Sky+ box - noone mentioned using 2 boxes ???

You could just use 1 lead going into the Sky+ box, but it would be a bit ****, you couldn't tape something on another channel if your watching something else.

You'd still need to pair the box to the card, and if you wanted to use the Sky+ features, you would still need to inform Sky to turn your Sky+ on.

As explained:

Sky+ has two inputs from one dish.

This is what gives it the facility to be able to record one sky channel and watch another.
A normal Sky box only has one.

Therefore the OP would have to run a cable etc...

Secondly Sky+ needs switching on at the Sky end.

Not sure if its still the same but I get Sky+ free each months for having Sky Sports (also if you have movies) and sure if you call them and say your thinking of leaving as TeleWest are willing to give you their V box for free it might get you a discount on the box price...

There is nothing to stop you using the Sky + box as a single unit just the same as your previous box worked. It will only have one input, so you will only be able to record what you are watching, but it will work with your card installed. For what it costs, you would probably be just as well to get multiroom and Sky will fit your new + equipment and cables. Less hassle that way.

Jammy thing - i've been arguing with Sky for weeks to give me a Sky+ box (i'd pay up to £49) think I might just have to get a Freeview PVR :x

Best thing to do would be look out for the 'refer a friend' offer where you get a free sky+ box instead of the vouchers.

I did that in december (with someone from hukd) and my box i getting fitted tomorrow. Only costing £30 for installation, and is new box not refurb (asked when I was on phone)

That deal is gpne - it is now £50 of next or M&S vouchers.

It is now, but usually changes after a while.

Someone in deal requests was looking for someone who wanted to join sky, so they could both get sky+ box free, so maybe the deal is back on?

No, its a different offer. The new customer gets a free sky+ box and install.

I've got 2 of these vouchers if anyone is interested in getting this offer (only NEW customers) It does mention something on the voucher about sending M&S vouchers - but doesnt say anything in the speel to suggest anything is sent to the voucher holder. If I get something, great, if I don't - it will still benefit someone in need! :p

The new customer would get a free Sky+ box and install. The person giving the voucher isnt mentioned on the one I have - but there is a mention about M&S vouchers in the small print. So possibly its £50 in M&S vouchers... however as I said, the voucher itself doesnt state this.
