Hiya guys,
Just had a phone call off some snotty guy telling me my 12 month warrenty is up for my sky+ box, I said no thanks and he told me if I didn't take extra cover there's a £50 call out fee and a 4 - 6 week wait. Was he talking through his backside do you think?
Anyone else taken this cover?

"if" your sky box broke, you call cancel your subs, and if they dont try to keep you and call your bluff then cancel and re-subscribe under another name, ive done this a few times and got all brand new equipment for £0 to £30,
failing that, you can search ebay for a cheap box.

My sky+ packed in after 2 years, phoned sky they said out of warranty. I said fine canel it I'm off to Virgin, sky CS "we can have an engineer out in 2 days."

I had this kind of call's and letters before.., i found out why.., you must have take your sky from an agent, i mean not from sky directly over the phone.., must have taken from a guy standing in the street from sky.., they sell details to 3rd parties.., one of them might have called you.., if he calls again ask him to P*** off..,

tell him if harasses you again, you will be cancelling sky if your box breaks after 12 month and joining in your partners, sisters, cousins name and get a free sky box with free fitting and no wait and a better deal than your on now.

It does cost to get a repair for a box that's out of warrantyt but this was probably a sales call from a company llike Sky Repair Services or similar who aren't ahything to do with Sky themselves.

If you are looking to buy such a warranty, always worth shopping around.

they told my nan that if she didnt take out the extra cover the remotes cost £55 quid and the box £200

This is not sky. Its a third party selling an extended warranty.

Cheers everyone, I did get box direct from sky though.
If it breaks I'll cancel or at least threaten to, glad I told him to do one!

These ppl stalked me when my sky box almost got to it's 12 month bday. They must have called me 5 times and everytime I said no and don't call me again.

My bird worked for sky and has had a sky box for years and if it ever packs up, as Paddy_o_furniture said, just call them if it ever packs up and threaten to leave, and they'll have an engineer out to you, faster than an illegal immigrants gets on a lorry in Calais.

Jokers like these were on Watchdog a few years ago. If he calls again, really grill him to find out if he is from Sky and listen to him squirm. Guaranteed he won't be . . .

Not hard. Even with TV off and looking at dust on screen is far better viewing than watching Sly.

They are bull sh*****s, we got sky and a month later we got a call saying our warranty was due to run out, I said we only got it installed a month ago, then they were saying 'oh sorry, we must have got our info wrong, but would you like to take out our insurance', I said to phone back the next day after I had spoke to my partner about it, then I phoned sky to ask them about it, and sky said that it is nothing to do with them.

i got the same phone call the other day but it was a £150 call out charge
so i asked him who owns the box and dish and he said sky ,so i told him why would i insure something that is not mine
that stopped him with his bull:x

The dish and box are yours (unlike VM) sky guarantee both for the 1st year.
You can sell on your sky box, you can't a VM box

My missus took one phone call off one of these people - he told her that if she didn't take out the insurance & the box broke then it would be £150 for the callout fee + whatever it costs to fix the problem. She said to him "Even British Gas don't charge that much!" lol. She told them that if it goes wrong Sky will give her a new box for £49 so unless he could better that offer she wasn't interested. They haven't phoned back.

A few years ago I had to call them out, one off payment of £65 but this covered call out and cost of repair or replacement of equipment. Unfortunately only sky available in my area.

Any other company other than Sky would be prosecuted for releasing private customer data to external outfit's.:x

Any other companies are not approved or endorsed by Sky and we cannot ensure the validity of any extended warranty plan taken out with them. Of course you're free to take out a warranty with anyone you choose, but we advise you read their terms and conditions carefully before making payment.

If you have an extended warranty plan for your Sky equipment and you are concerned about whether it's a genuine Sky Protect plan, you can e-mail us using our online contact form.
What to look out for
If anyone contacts you offering service contracts, protection plans or warranty cover for your Sky equipment -
Ask for the name of their company
(if they are not from Domestic & General they are not officially approved or endorsed by Sky)
Ask the name of the plan they offer
(if it is not Sky Protect, it is not officially approved or endorsed by Sky)
Ask them to confirm your Sky account number, your box type and when you first subscribed to Sky (onlySky Protect will have these details)

Sky obviously get a cut from Domestic & General.:roll:

They should not be passing on confidential customers details, but they seem to do as they like.
