Sky TV and the magic eye

No, its not a new "Magic Key" series book ... but a question on the Magic Eye extenders. ;-)

My Dad is getting Sky HD installed on Sunday (Which I am going to relieve him of and give him my Sky+ box as he doesn't have an HD TV)

He currently has a standard sky box in the living room and uses a magic eye extender (which is RF hard wired) to view in the bedroom. He's able to change channels of the box downstairs while watching upstairs with the normal sky remote.

Will he still be able to do this with the Magic Eye he has, or does he need to change that in order to use his (my old) Sky+ box.

Ta Muchly

Cos its half price subscription for the year for the complete package .... he wants the basic package only and wont make use of the £10pm HD waiver.

And the answer to my question is?

I had a sky+ with extender and changed to an HD box with no issues whatever....

you will need to both be on the same package to do this swap also. as the viewing card is linked to the box so he will not only have to give you the new box but his viewing card aswell and you will have to give him your box with your card.

so if you have say the full skyworld pack your father will now be getting that thru your card and vice versa.

also dont know if this is true but i was told the reason you have to keep the box connected to the phone line for a year is that they check via the link that the box is still at the house it was fitted in to stop people selliing the pricey new hd box that they got for free.

Not quite true. He is getting the multi channel and movie packages at half price. He will give me his HD box and viewing card. I am paying full price for just the mutli channel package. I will give him my card and sky+ box. I'm well aware about card pairing....and if I wanted to not swap cards as well, I'd end up paying full price for my HD film package as well as pay the £10 supplement for HD per month.

They dont check the phone line - apart from multiroom users.

Actually they do check for phone line connection on single boxes. It's part of the T&C's unless you pay a manual enablement charge of £25; to negate part of the contract, otherwise you will get letters stating its not connected. You will get away with it for a while though.
