I only get upto 20Mb, it's actually 11 meg where I am, about a mile from the exchange. I was originally quoted 4 meg so not too shoddy.

downloading at 1.15MB/s
What time of day is it downloading at this speed ?.... I get slow speeds of lower than 8kb/s until 12am to 7am where it jumps up to 800kb/s...

Think yourself lucky mate, I signed up to them when I moved (6 months ago) and took out the whole package. Up to 20 meg broadband, they done a line test and said that I should get between 6 - 8 meg, not too bad I thought, then I get a letter in the post a couple of days later saying I should get between 4 - 6 meg, not the end of the world I thought. Then the day came for installation and I was getting way less than 1 meg!!! I gave it a few days to 'settle in' and I was actually getting 1/3 of a meg!!!! Obviously I complained, they done some tests and blamed BT! I then contacted BT about the fault, they blamed SKY! Eventually after a million phone calls backwards and forwards BT came out checked my lines and sockets ( a couple of small faults were found and repaired ). Tested the broadband speed.....................NO DIFFERENCE! Phoned Sky as BT said the line was 100% perfect, Sky blamed BT's equipment in the exchange! Phoned BT AGAIN, 3 times they came out to me and 3 different engineers. They all did little repairs here and there and eventually went to my local exchange to check it out in there, the engineer came back and said all was absolutely fine and my line now could not be any more than 101% perfect. Now my broadband speed is.......................................... STILL THE SAME!
This went on for well over a month and when I finally lost it with Sky and the dickheads who 'work' for them. I asked them to cancel the broadband and they said I was over my month and was now in a 12 month contract. I reminded them that in front of me was the letter they sent in black and white stating that I was to expect to receive download speeds between 4 - 6 meg and I was actually getting 1/16th of what they said. I said that under consumer rights they (Sky) have severely miss-sold a product and that I was in preparation in making a formal complaint to OFCOM and strangely enough they admitted fault there and then and I was given my MAC code. Arseholes!
I also had the grief of when I took out the package that Sky take over the BT phone line, when I ordered the package I asked the woman from Sky will this effect my BT contract as I have just taken it out, she said no, not in any way. Once the package from Sky was put in place I had a letter from BT billing me for £125 for breaking my contract within the 12 months! So AGAIN back on the phone to Sky, the only way round this by not paying the BT charge was to cancel the phone package, which I did, when I did this I asked the person from Sky, will this effect my package cost to which the answer was no! So the next bill from Sky was massive as I had broken the original agreement and instead of having the promotional bundle I now had bits and bobs and Sky 'employees' had mucked my orders about SO much no one knew exactly what was going on.
It took me almost 3 months to sort all of this out by hundreds of phone calls and letters and even demanded to speak to Mark Anderson (customer marketing director). It is all sorted out now, I am back with BT and have got a different ISP, I would really like to add the movie package to my existing HD bundle but I SO know they will f*ck something up along the way somehow, its built it to them!
So, good luck, or get yourself a proper ISP.

I get max 2mb but usually around 1.5 mb on my upto 20 mb sky broadband package, I'm so far away from the exchange. It sucks big time and 02 won't provide even though their at my local exchange, Simply because I'm too far away..!!!.

Never had 1 problem with sky or router still going after 4yrs or more, Im getting up to 16meg i was paying for 2 meg but looks like they upgraded everybody to 20meg for free.

Feels like I've time warped back to 2007 and stepped straight in this thread.

Thought everyone new that the speed is only an 'upto' and is never likely you will get this and that Sky love to throttle a line at any given opportunity.

1mb download sounds about right for your line. Please dont tell me that you think people on Virgins 50mb service actually download at that speed do you?

I only download at 500kb/s so feel my pain, bu Im never that desperate to need any download immediately to really care too much.

Im on 20mb o2 Broadband and recieve 24mb speeds \o/ (dont know why o2 advertise it as up to 20mb when its up to 24mb due to using the same lines as Be). First provider im extremly happy with, no throttling, no fair usage (they have one but ive never been contacted or speeds lowered and i tend to download alot), and a UK Customer Support. Plus with the quidco return, you end up paying far less than most other places (for your 12month contract).

Only problem ive had with o2, is there router is pretty poor.. only gives 10mb wireless speeds, so had to be wired to it to get full speed until i bought a decent router.

That is probably 3.8 Megabits, so you will actually be downloading at about 450 kilobytes/sec

OP is downloading at 1.15 megabytes or 1,150 kilobytes/sec.

Do not feel sorry for him.
#23
why is it that people complain when all the isp advertise as upto, as in upto 20 meg or upto 24 meg. it's there in black & white not even in small print. even if you lived next door to the exchange and had fantastic internal wiring, you will only receive 85% of the max speed as the rest is reserved for the isp.

I've no idea what this means but I'm with sky on unlimited and I've just tested and am getting 0.4 download and upload speeds, is that good/bad?
