Skype is basically like phoning to computers. A skype phone allows you to plug a phone type thing into a usb port so you basically talk like your own the phone.

If you are after a regular mobile phone with skype built into it.... you can get a skypephone from 3... (click here to see it on their website)

Also, with skype, if you pay for "skypeout", you can also dial normal numbers - not just skype users on a computer!

Hope that helps!

Skype is a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP ) service.

You still rely on the phone network fo rthe connection to your exchange (cabled or mobile) but Instead of relying on the phone network to switch the calls, you rely on switching done on a bunch of Internet servers.

You can"dial" calls and receive calls much the same as with a PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) phone.

You can talk to other Skype usrs for free.

You can buy credit to make calls from Skype to "normal" PSTN users. The advantage is, that for international PSTN calls your call is normally carried via Skype to the destination country, and only then is it handed on to the local PSTN system, meaning that the charge is relatively low local call charge, (plus a bit for Skype)

There are "normal" phone looking handsets available which generally plug in to a USB port on your PC.

There are also some thatplug straight into an broadband router.

SOme mobiles can handle VoIP, but as that would be in competition with the (The words "greedy", "little", "money", "grabbing" and "tossers" were considered but not used in this sentence :whistling:) mobile phone companies, so some of them discourage or don't permit VoIP applications on their data connections.

It'd have been easier to Google Skype or go straight to www.skype.com
