In the last week my bb has slowed down dramatically & I can't figure out why.
Not sure if its in my router setup, a virus, or just my tiscali account?
I've tried restoring windows 7 to an earlier date without luck. I've also uninstalle utorrent in case it was that, the only other s/ware I've loaded & removed was pc pitstop.

Anyone have any ideas what I can do to sort it out?
Any help gratefully repped.

have you unplugged the modem and router from the mains for about 30 secs, then plugged back in,as this will resset them

Who are you with? Some ISPs have been known to throttle your account if you do too much P2P.

Download 0.15 mbs
upload 0.38 mbs
ping 41ms

Do you have another PC to test using the same tests?
That way you can eliminate it being your PC at fault.

Also worth scanning with Malwarebytes Anti Malware, which is a must to get rid of any nasties on your PC.
(I understand you wont be able to download it at the moment lol)

if you can build up the courage call Tiscali up and they will talk you through resetting your router incase its that.

Is your BB slow all the time or just in the evenings?

Sons lappy is
download 0.13
upload 0.36
ping 41ms

BTW my tiscali account is "Tiscali Max Unlimited" which I believe has no download limits unless now talk talk are in charge they've changed it.

try your BT test socket
banned#14
tiscali on their basic option is a 40gb traffic limit

after that, they slow you down drastically

with 2 laptops, and being a utorrent user, its easy to go over that

I have mine plugged into the test socket permanently, I don't think thats the problem as its been like that for ages.

okay, I take it thats your master socket and you have filters on also other lines? and you havent doubled up any filters by accident?
(sorry for the simple questions but its worth eliminating the obvious first)

There's one filter on the test socket with a line to the phone & a line to the router.
BTW I just downloaded & ran the malware program & it found "hijack. display properties" which I've removed, rebooted & it's still going slow.
I have to go now but thanks for all the advice & help. I'll check back & rep you all tomorrow.

Cheers.

Well the basics appear to be fine then, this is about as far as my support goes without seeing the router lol.

Maybe someone else will be able to provide you with some more help regarding line tests.

Failing that.....give them a call and see what they have to say about it.

UPDATE: what malwarebytes found is nothing to worry about its just a system setting that its changed back which is normally changed when your pc is infected, but as thats all its found dont worry about it.

Just incase anyones checking this thread. I finally got through to talktalk (who have taken over tiscali) & asked for a MAC code. When he asked me why I told him since TT have taken over my BB has been slow, he checked it out & said there has been a problem at our exchange & we're getting new tech put in over the next week to get much faster BB. He then said that as I'd been inconvenienced he'd give us a free month credited to my account!

Anyway thanks for all that helped, I've repped you all.
Cheers.
