what RAM you got?

Poor RAM will lead to slowness

Also,

You may have spyware, Adware.

if your pc is slow, then best thing to do is to reformat your hard disk, it will wipe everything off it, reinstall windows and things should be fine after that,
#5
open "my computor" right click you`re hard disk, click properties..open tools folder, press defrag

get Spybot - search and destroy and run it. Finds loads of stuff. Also try a program called CCleaner, you will be amazed what rubbish that finds! I do this regularly and it really helps.

Defrag is under start>programs>accessories>system tools>Disk Defragmenter.

But really I've never seen any different using programs like Defrag and CCleaner.

if you go to start, run and type msconfig then click on the startup tab you will see a loaddddd of programs that run when u start your pc. look here you can work out what programs you can stop from running. will make things seem smoother. only do this if you feel confident not to break anything.. lol. maybe try unticking 5 items the website says are not required, reboot, see whats what and re tick if there are any problems. also, make sure you do the other suggestions here first re spyware and viruses etc. hope it helps.

As a couple of others have already mentioned, it's woth downloading and running spybot search and destroy, ccleaner, superantispyware and ad-aware.

Yes, sounds like over kill but I've found that each one of them picks up things that the others miss, so I just use them all together , just to make sure.

AVG isn't the best and does miss some malware, so...

A Couple tools for you ...If its a 2k,XP or Vista System...

http://www.malwarebytes.org/
Pretty good at getting rid of spyware like XP/Vista anti virus 2008/2009

Dialafix
http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Dial-a-fix-Download-27328.html
Saves re-registering Dll's manually (XP Systems only at present)

Freeware defrag tool
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5318
Ok defragger, but not as good as pay4 like diskeeper

http://www.diskeeper.com/defrag.asp
Then again you could download the trial version and defrag :)

If its vista, its possibly a user account corruption, just make a new account and transfer your documents etc.

Hope it helps :)
