lol... its just nicer if you brown it before you chuck it in.... it isnt gonna kill you if you dont, but the meat will be, well, boiled from raw if you dont......

no need to brown, no difference in taste and i have done 100's of stews, also note, jamie oliver has also come out and said browning not needed, by the way i use to brown all my meat in the slow cooker, but not anymore.

The great thing about this stew is that it gets put together very quickly, and this is partly to do with the fact that no time is spent browning the meat. Even though this goes against all my training, I experimented with two batches of meat – I browned one and put the other straight into the pot. The latter turned out to be the sweeter and cleaner-tasting, so I’ve stopped browning the meat for most of my stews these days.

1squash peeled and cubes
1sweet potato as above
1onion chopped
2carrots chopped (I don't peel them)
Tsp cumin seeds
2pints veg stock(I use a cube and 2 pints boiling water)
Lob it all in slow cooker whack it on high, leave it for 2 hrs ish, I sometimes put a tsp chilli flakes in too at the end, blend it. Easy butternut squash and sweet potato soup. Absolutely gorgeous!!
