I was living in a flat in a basement big old house it was.The kitchen used to be full of them, they come out in night, mainly in Summer mths but its still quite mild out at night now.Basically what we used to do was lay down newspapers and wait for them to come out and get them back outside on the newspaper.
I reckon with us they were in the kitchen anyway like in holes in the walls etc, landlady wasn't interested in getting rid of them either.
When i was about 10 I had some snails out the garden and I guess 1 day 1 got loose out the icecream container,I used to put them bk in garden but however 1 must got loose somehow and every morning my Mum couldn't work out where all the trails were coming from on the carpet.Anyway she found the snail attached right under the tv cabinet when cleaning so yeh check everywhere. If in your living room bit easier to trace than the kicthen I had cos of heavy appliances must been in a wall or in some hole in a cupboard etc. But check underneath all your furniture etc.

There's been more slugs/snails this year than I can ever remember, must have been because of the terrible summer, havn't had any in our house though thankfully.

Tons in the garden though, I made the mistake of going round pouring salt all over about 50 of them one day, what a mess that made, they all melted and made a right mess of the garden, that will teach me for being a slug murderer :giggle:

Can slugs climb walls??

Last year, as I went to close my kitchen window I found one on the internal window sill!! I live in a first floor flat!

I am scared of spiders but the shudder that went through me on seeing this  I hate the dark evenings just now as so many of the damn critters about and treading on one is the worst feeling in the world....even worse when you stand on a snail and hear that 'crunch' A shudder has just gone through me!!!

We used to get them in kitchen (very hygenic!) every night so had to spend ages the next day cleaning before breakfast. Plus the dog sleeps in the kitchen and was barking one night - went down and found that she had gotten out of bed and wouldnt get back in because there was a slug infront of it :giggle: what a wimp!

Solution - we put oats down under the cupboards. Slugs love oats (just ordinary breakfast oats) and eat them, but then they dehydrate and die. We havent had 1 slug since we put them down, and all we have to do is top the oats up every now and then

Talc works too - they either don't like the dryness or the smell. Put it where you think they are coming in from.

This also works brilliantly for ants - doesn't kill them just puts them off coming in your house!!!! Plus you don't need hideous chemicals.

I read about a slug hunting robot a while back - at night it would go hunting using the slugs own trail to track it down and then kill it. Once it was finished for the night it would navigate back to its power base and charge itself up during the day. If that worked it would be possible to fit a small fuel cell to the device so that once it had killed the slug it would be pulled onto the robot and the decomposing slug could provide power to it.

you can get slug pellets! or leave a lid of beer, it gets them drunk and they die!!!!! my brother had this problem ages ago, he used the pellets, that got rid of them! good luck!
