Smarties: Where have the E numbers gone?

My daughter had a Smarties Easter Egg from school, and she asked me if I wanted some.
When she put some in my hand they looked like someone else had been sucking them!
They certainly were not the bright vibrant colours they used to be.
So I checked the box and now they are coloured with things including raddish and red cabbage.

When did this happen?
I miss artificial colours.

happened ages ago. they had to stop producing the blue one for a while though as they couldnt find a natural source of the blue colour. apparently they've found one now, no idea what it is though... what natural products are that shade of blue :S

Its counterfeit!!! No, I think the manufacturers have been pressured into reducing if not eliminating E numbers especially colourings into sweets etc. Smarties were really bad - I knew they did something to the blue ones as read that a while back but not sure about the other colours. Haven't had smarties for ages but kids have a couple of eggs for Sunday so will have a look when they open them (if I don't first!)

Blue and yellow to make green.

Nestle have been working hard to reduce / eliminate all artifical flavours and colours, the chocolate will taste different due to it being made in Germany since 2007.

They now recreate the colour by extracting the colouring from a seaweed called Spirulina.

Smarties are just not tasty anymore and I agree about the colours - I thought ours were fake or something when we bought a tube
