Smashed front of iPhone 4

ronaldo121ronaldo121

My brother has smashed his iPhone front part of the screen. The actual LCD seems ok its the front part which you touch which as gone.

I have looked at ifixit seems quite complex to open up has anyone used a repair service they would recommend as unfortunately he doesn't have insurance which covers accidental damage.

my friend managed to do her own with a screen from ebay - not sure if it will affect the warranty - but might be worth looking at ?

Easy enough if you know how to follow instructions but easy enough to mess things up too
I've just done about 5 this evening but I know what I'm doing :- )

If it was mine i'd maybe risk it just with it being my brothers i don't really want to try it but i reckon maybe i could.

Wow the most simple answer there, maybe you should but then you probably could do it but why take the risk? Why not - not probably bother to bother and avoid the risk on probably not probably breaking the phone unless you think you probably could do it then I would probably do it but only probably!

Take it to the genius bar at your local apple store and they'll replace it for £119 and you also get a 3 month warranty with it :)

Only 119 pounds, not like apple to profiteer, bet the genius at the genius bar can't do it faster than the 10 year old worker in China.

Its a pretty simple fix, but needs a lot of patience. The screws are really really tiny and of different sizes, so you need to be very organized i.e, mark every screw as it comes out, be careful putting them back together, etc.
You have to open it from the back and almost every part needs to come out and yes it will void the warranty. Best to go through insurance if you have it. You can DIY for around £30 and a couple of hours of your time, or take it to your local mobile repair shop where they'll do it for around £50.

Try the Apple option first, they are usually really helpful and if you go on enough at them they may even half the replacement cost (or possibly replace for free).

At the end of the day the iPhone 'Gorilla glass' display is not strong enough for everyday use.
