Smell of clutch in my Scenic . . ??

Hey all, wonder if someone with some mechanical knowledge could shine some light on this for me.

I have an 02 Scenic which is used for the children etc etc, only has 34000 miles on the clock and I have noticed that the clutch is starting to smell when I start it up the next day after driving it. The smell is coming through the vents.

The gear change is a bit jerky in it due to one of the mounts needing replacement, but other than that its fine. There is plenty of movement left in the clutch.

Any ideas?

REP for help!

If your only letting the kids mess around in it what's the problem?

All I will say is learn to drive, I'm on 116k miles with original clutch VW mind.

LOL! I read the title VERY wrong!

When you put it into gears does it crunch or go in smoothly?

Could be the clutch on the aircon compressor (if you have aircon)
#6
If its not aligned properly it might just need adjusting or could be your gearbox

if you know for certain its the smell of a burning/slipping clutch its only going to be one thing
does it slip or quickly stall the engine if you try pulling away with the brakes/handbrake on

Gears go in smoothly, clutch is not slipping.

Did it occur to you that I may not have owned this car for 8 years? Possibly the previous owner has hammered it? -

I don't see the point in paying loads of money for something thats going to be abused, so I do like your dig at the fact I have a renault. I wont tell you what car I drive personally, would'nt want to embarrass you, enjoy your VW.

Clutches usually only smell for one reason and thats if their slipping, but it will possibly be in a drivable state for miles, but i'd check how soon your usual garage could change it in case its a 2 week wait

Thanks for that reply. Its just weird because its not slipping at all, I am having a little judder sometimes but thats it.

How much do you think I should pay for it to be done?
