Hi
I had the washing machine fixed this week - it was all blocked and just needed a good clean (the pipes etc) but now it really smell every time I open the door.
Anyone got any advice on how to stop it smellng? It smells like dirty old water!
I have put it on a really hot wash a couple of times, just to give it a good rinse, but it's still smelly!

Have you checked the seal between the door and the main washer drum? There's usually a gap there where bacteria forms and leads to bad smells.

Lots of bleach put it on a hot wash

Then put in some normal detergent and put it on a hot wash again.

I had this problem, pour bleach neat down the sink once a week at bedtime. Its a collection of dirty water in your U bend, the smell comes up through your water hose.

Bleach will sort it.

May be worth throwing some white vinegar thru the softener bit if you are gonna do a hot wash with soda crystals, it should freshen up that bit too.

scrap it and get a new one lol

viniger instead of detergent for a few cycles will help too

Just throw a dead rat in there, That will take away the smell of the dirty water

Just got back in and ours had got stinky so I poured a bottle of bleach down its throat, and for some reason thought a spoon of bicarb would help freshen it up, DONT DO IT!!!!
Our washer is currently foaming at the mouth, on the plus side it looks like we will be able to have a foam party later though!

Does make the eyes sting a bit but bleach always does that to me, got the back door wide open though now.

Thought mixing chemicals was just cleaning products, bicarb and bleach is safe though http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=bicarb+and+bleach&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rlz=1R1GGGL_en-GB___GB342&client=firefox-a

Usually just use it as a paste for cleaning grout though, didnt expect mount etna to erupt in the kitchen!

Gotta love the versatility of soda crystals, I use them for cleaning silver, drain cleaner, cleaning old tools they cut through grease on a BBQ better than anything Ive tried before! and all for 65p a bag!
