I live in a 7 yr old perssimon house just recently one if the smoke detectors has started bleeping as if the battery needs changing but I think the are wired up to the mains. I have tried to get the alarm off but can not see a battery compartment. Do any of you live in a similar house or experience same. The bloomin thing is bleeping day n night plus Ive two small kids and want the smoke detector working so they are safe. Thanks for any responses.

They are a building firm. Houses made out of cardboard is their specialty.

Our fire alarms are rigged into the house itself and we get them serviced once a year so if you haven't had that done I would thumb thru your yellow pages.

there should be a back up battery which just slides into the side of the unit, it beeps when it needs changing

This. It will have a battery backup. You normally twist the cover to get it off. There should be markings on the case itself telling how to remove it.

I lived in a (now) 9 yo persimmon house and had same problem. I'm not sure what solved it because a few things happened regarding that house since then so I can't remember what fixed it. I know I didn't change the battery. It could be a reminder to test the unit ? or I turned it off and on again at the fuse box and it reset ? I'll ask my ex if he can remember.

The reason my memory regarding this house is foggy is because it flooded last October at 6 o'clock in the morning because of poor workmanship. The main cold water pipe under bathroom/back bedroom floor gave way because the plumber in his infinite wisdom soldered a bend onto said pipe which was same size as each other (instead of using proper size). Downstairs became a swimming pool and the electric didn't trip off and I was electrocuted (not thrown across room or anything) three times! afaik persimmon have 2 insurance companies sueing them now and every now and I again I consider a civil claim for the trauma we went through.

How weird is that!

They all have batteries,Even ones connected to the mains have a battery in case there is a power cut,As someone said above you usually just turn them anti clockwise and you should be able to access it then,

twist anti - clockwise i think, sometimes they are really hard to twist off. then change the battery, as it is mains with a battery back up.

lol, I lived in a place years ago, the smoke detector kept beeping, changing the battery, even taking it out didn't stop the beeping, Apparently it was dust from above(the flats were newly built) that was making it beep!!!!:)

btw Hi COM, hope you're well:thumbsup:

hi sweetie xx:thumbsup:

i've had such a day... my hubby working all weekend and i worked this morning, then went clothes shopping with my 11yr old who wants to look 80's for some play she's doing at drama school, then had to put all the tesco shopping away and yell at the kids for not helping me all day, made dinner and am now trying to stay awake longer than the kids lol

Just to say I eventually sorted it thanks I did twist them to get off then managed to disconnect them. After the wire which I can only assume is wired back to the alarm after that was removed you could see the battery housing. So replaced battery it carried on bleeping for a little while then must have reset it's self. Thanks for all your msgs you've all been great. Brb I would definately sue you should have a good case for negligence.

Sassie can I come LOL cud do wi a partieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee have fun once again thanks to all who needs a man when you've got hotuk ;-p xxx
