Smoking

Some people can be really immature when it comes to this. I had a freind and happened to mention that i got a face full of someone elses smoke and hated it. She then called me pathetic for doing so.
After that i made a comment about smokers dieng young and she gor really offended and called me a w*nker over this one statement.
Is it just me or did she over react a bit becasue statistically smokers do die young.
I know this., as general knowledge and also thats the words my tutor used in college today. Im doing a science degree so its correct thing obviously.

Whats your opinion on the matter.
Do you hate it when you get a face of someone elses smoke,
Do you think its ok?
Do you think my freind went over the mark a bit?

I am a non smoker but i do feel that smokers are having all this bad for you thing rammed down their throats & i disagree with it. Yes smoking should be banned indoors but enough is enough. People should be allowed to smoke when & where they like outside. Those TV ads should be banned. What happened to freedom of choice?

Yes smoking should be fien outside, after all its not that bad, but its worse when you are stuck in a room with somone who smokes.

I smoke, but have been cutting down as i get older, can go for a few days without one, having a drink is the killer, but i imagine your friend is like most smokers, we all (i think) wish we hadn't started and get quite defensive when told the cons of doing so, because we already know! And no I don't think it's ok to blow smoke in someone's face whether they are a smoker or not. If i were having a drink, would it be ok to throw it over you? NO.

brilliant answer:thumbsup:

Well said Darren.

I may be wrong here, but the OP says he/she got slated "just for mentioning" it. I have a feeling it probably wasn't the first time it was talked about to the friend and bringing up the conversation here makes me think that!

I think so to. She hasnt spoken to for like 2 months, and whenever i try to apologise she just spouts abuse at me.

nah was no great closeness anyways, but its still the point that it was something so trivial

OK.. but it sounds like its more than that. People dont usually fall out for a single comment like that. I know I wouldn't.
#14
Its also that people don't their flaws/insecurities mentioned all the time, its not too pleasant is it fat bum?
#15
I think I'd be ditching any "friend" like that, or laying one into them. No need for it.

I was a smoker for 12 years and I'd have never dreamed of blowing smoke deliberately in anyones face, its extrememly ignorant and a disgusting thing to deliberately do to someone.

Find yourself a real friend...leave the loser to be a loser on their own.

There was no mention of it being deliberate - and it wasn't the "friend" that did it.

i wouldn't call passive smoking trivial, is she a bit of a binge drinking ladette by any chance?:-D

yeah she is lol.

(im not like that)

didt mean passive smoking was trivial just mean my statement was.

I'm a smoker and am aware its bad for me, but so are many other things in life I dont really drink though so smoking is my only vice. However I dont smoke indoors or around non-smokers, even outside in open spaces I step away from people, the only place indoors I smoke in is my "office" (aka man-shed) when it rains (I have a nice chair to sit on too).

really don't want to sound patronising here, but if you're the same age, move on and forget about it, it's part of growing up you have plenty of time ahead to establish "real" friendships, by the sounds of it you're a good kid, your friend unfortunately will probably be pushing a pram by the time she's 18! sad but true, let her get on with it!

I have moved on its just something that annoyed me. It was even more so when my cosuin died young of a heart attack didnt smoke didnt drink nothing she left 2 kids behind, Thats what really peeved me off about it.

Nah sad as it sounds she wont be pushing a pram, shes the type the of girl that people wouldnt go near with a 10 foot barge pole. Its mean but not half as bad as some of the stuff shes said to me. and Thanks for that

gee, if this was friendship, who needs enemies ^^^
#28
I once read somewhere, something similar to the following

As a result of your smoking, I am subjected to your residue, smoke which goes in my mouth and my eyes.
As a result of me drinking, I need to urinate, would it be fair if my urine went in your mouth and your eyes
I think thats a fair deal, dont you
Its less likely to kill you after all.

i am 50/50 on this one as i allow no one to smoke in my house or round my boy but i cant stop what others do while out in the pub etc and i refuse to ask them/make them stop as i look it like fi it bothers me/you that much then go elsewhere (now the ban is in place - there is no excuse for not being able to be in loads of places hwere you can avoid smoking) but this is no offence to OP or others but there is so much out there that kills you, i dont smoke out of choice but all this you die young bla bla bla, but @ the end of the day there must be just as many people dieing of drugs/being overweight etc etc and for every young smoker who may or may not die early i bet there are loads and loads of people smoking 60+ years who are fine.... maybe i am missing something but thats my view lol

Thats a good point to, and a signifacant number of people do die of passive smoking tho, even ina room with an open window smoke residue can still be there for 2 and a half hous afterwards.

point taken and you're quite right, i laugh at the pub smoking ban, the pubs where i live have set up really cosy "SMOKING" rooms, much nicer than the actual pub, we all go there to escape the **** that goes on in the pub and the non-smokers follow us in!The very one's who complain about it, come in and join us:w00t:

Yeah thats another thing that people do, they compalin about something untill it can be gained from if you get me. Liek yur example complain all the time about smokers and then go to the skoing room cos its more cosy

Also reformed smokers are the worse, my dad used to smoke and hes like aww filthy habbit disgusting and dunno why people do it and really gets at them from doing so. And im like wait u were smoking not that long ago
#38
round my way our 2 locals either have an outside tent or nothing @ all lol
but you no 100% rain - snow or wind a smoker will go outside and smoke for example my old man who will go blue outisde just for a fag but @ the end of the day if i said oi stop smoking he wouldnt listen lol + even he has said he has been doing it so long its a habit for example on a long haul flight he can go with out a fag but when in the pub will go outside every 20 mins
