Something just struck me today, that brought about a wry smile and summed it how diverse peoples interests can be.

One of the guys I work with, is currently flying off to Spain today to do battle. He likes dressing up and always takes his guns and swords with him. Yes, you've guessed it, he's involved in these mock historical battles. (This one is for the Battle of Corruna)

On the face of it, it's all pretty harmless fun I guess, though he is pretty serious about this stuff and most of his holidays are in pursuit of this hobby. (I'd say he probably has at least 4 trips a year to do battle.)

So do any of you have any obscure and unusual hobbies - or know someone who has?

Godddd yeah, Blackpool obviosuly attracts them.
There is this guy who lives not too far away from us. His wife died about 8 years ago and he went loony. He suddenly started comign out wearing her clothes, then bought a wig and now dresses up as her. So some days he's himself and other days he's his wife and wears her dreses and a wig and a full face of makeup.lol.

For round this way - there is a group of guys that work on their minitiature steam trains. I find quite a few of them very strange.

However, their hobby are the children's gain, and they run a miniature steam railway in the park every sunday with a ground level and elevated track.

Not so very weird - only slightly - but you reminded me of them!

A colleague I used to work with does that sort of thing, he used to bring in photos of the "battles" he used to partake in and insist we all looked at them......he was a little odd though and a little too "friendly" if you know what I mean! Each to their own I guess.

There's a bloke who I used to live near to who changed his name by deed poll to Sir William Geronimo Wallace (Braveheart). He wore the same pair of wrangler jeans every day along with a pair of cowboy boots and full native american indian head dress. His house has the front window painted with the Scottish flag, with the words "Sir William Wallace's Pad"

He used to drink in the same pub as more (he actually spent most of his life in there though) and although he was a little eccentric, he was okay to talk to

I think those that sit round a table playing their little Warcraft or whatever thing it is and spending hours on end painting little figures are a bit odd. lol.

But each to their own...........would be dull if we were all the same. :)

Wow, thats quite a rate, obviously not registered with the Royal College of Psychiatrists, who recommend up to £140 per hour.

Anyway, I suppose my weird thing is I dance the Argentine tango, not the ballroom stuff but proper sexy Argentine tango.

Guess I just enjoy dancing with lots of different ladies, and as I get to travel a lot with work, it gives me something to do on an evening, instead of being stuck in a hotel, there is always a Milonga event going off somewhere.
Also keeps me fit as I hate the gym.

In this particular occasion, the town have actually paid his plane fare (which was just under £400).... and for putting on a few strange clothes!

Like I said though, i think it's odd (perhaps weirdo is too strong a term) - but as a thread title, it does the trick!

Indeed. When i was younger, some of the guys I worked with, used to catch overnight trains from Waterloo to Exeter, to get "mileage" behind a certain locomotive - and log it all in a book. Thats a pretty extreme form of train spotting... not to mention a bit smelly, since, they would come into work the next day without a shower!

Where I used to live a few years ago there was this old couple, the guy used to push his wife to the shop in her wheelchair every day. he used to wear a kilt and I always presumed they were Scottish. Then one day I noticed he was wearing a skirt, not a kilt, lol. Over the 3 years I lived there he gradually went from a guy in a kilt to a guy wearing full women's clothes, a wig, make up, the whole works. lol

I saw a weirdo in sainsburys yesterday.

Old duffer, but not really old. Kept doing a little cough and saying "excuse me" - no one was near him though.

I know this person who keeps staring at me strangely just because I leave the house wearing my late Wife's clothes.

Some people are just weird. :whistling:

On the face of it, it's all pretty harmless fun I guess,

But underneath it's what? Something sinister?

Weirdness is a subjective term.

I know a couple of people who only have about 80 years to live and spend 5 days a week at a 'job' working in an 'office'.

Bizarre.
