I am really chuffed that i will be partaking in some of the ceremony even if it is only a prayer.

Its one that has to be directed towards them and how they are togther etc. I am really struggling to write one from scratch so need some sort of website with inspriation of how to write one.

I dont want one that keeps going on about God giving them blessings, really more personal if you know what i mean.

The websites i have looked at are too religious and the way they are worded i would never dream of saying.

Thanks to any helpers.

Father, your gift of love has blossomed and matured, for ________ and ________, into marriage love. On this sacred occasion they have become husband and wife. We pray for your blessing on their marriage. Surround their relationship with a lasting and a growing love. Permeate their life together with Your presence. May their life together reflect the life of Jesus, their Leader, in whose name we pray. Amen

Any good?

or this

Dear God, grant to ________ and ________ a true love to unite them to each other; patience to assimilate their differences; forgiveness to cover their failures; guidance to lead them in the right way; courage to face times of testing; and Your inner peace to comfort them and uphold them in times of distress. Bless them in the living of their days together, and deepen their love for each other in the Spirit of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Do you actually believe in a god? I know many people sell out to social pressure by uttering words they don't believe in in these kinds of ceremonies. If you do believe, then I can't help I'm afraid, but I hope you enjoy the ceremony and find the right words for you.

If its a religious ceremony why not ask the minister (or whatever) for suggestions? If its a civil ceremony it has to be completely non religious.....

I am religious and a prayer should come from the feeling you have at the time, from your heart, not the garbage written or dictated to people which have no meaning to the situation. If your not religious and you don't believe in God then its not really the best situation for you, also depends on what church there from.

Anyway good luck with that.

Just go with what you feel is right.

Leave " God " out of it if you are not comfortable with using it/him.

A " Prayer " doesn't have to be religious.

Who you praying to then?

I Know what you mean though, if you want to give good words towards the occasion its more like celebrating them and the occasion, giving your hopes and blessing apon there occasion and life ahead.

Its kid of like a speech to wish them both well rather than a prayer. Not really planning on asking god to bless them etc.

Thanks for the replies. Has helped me out a lot, any more are welcome.

Okay then its not as bad as I thought for you.

I'd still write it from your feelings towards them. Even if you cock it up which I doubt you will it will have more effect on them as a couple.

One of my good friends got married the other week, and the talks given were all about there impact they had on the person giving the talk. Some really nice things were said.

But the Groome went as far as singing to the bride(my friend) before the exchanging of rings infront of everyone. That took balls.

I know you thought it was a load of tosh, hense the response without real knowledge of prayer.

But everyone is welcome to there beliefs. I respect yours before you think i'm being funny.

Why not try a poem doesnt have to be one that ryhms. When my sister got married me and her now sister in law both read one. If your not used to speaking in public make sure you practise it before hand and not just the night before - thats when she gave me mine. hope this helps

Thanks for the comments, think i will just write it from the heart and whatever comes out on the paper will be good enough.

If its a "reading" of some sorts, you could have something from shakespears sonnets and them maybe you write something about how you think those lines apply to the happy couple....

But it doesn't have to be too heavy - I heard of one couple having the Owl and the Pussycat as a reading.....

If its a reading then have a look on hitched. It was invaluable for me when i wrote bestman speeches and when i got married.

stevey_p7 calling Orsen. Come in Orson.

[Is that you stevey?].

Yes sir, talk about bad connections here. The echoes in these church things these earthlings use are quite something.

[What are these churches?].

Well sir, they are a type of communication pod. People gather in them in large numbers - well, they did; those numbers seem to be dwindling in recent years - and they chant together. They call it 'praying'.

[What is this [I]praying?][/I]

Well sir, it seems they hope to reach the ears of a guy called JC who disappeared in a spaceship a couple of thousand years ago. There were later reports that he'd landed on a new planet called 'Heaven'.

[What is this planet? It isn't logged on out planetary database.]

Yes, well that's the funny thing your Munchkinness. They all seem a bit confused about this. Different earthling tribes have different ideas about what and where it is. One tribe even believes it has rivers of wine and randy virgins laying around :?

[It all seems rather odd to me stevey.]

Not 'alf excellency! But I have managed to get myself invited to one of their tribal love ceremonies, and so will be able to report more in my next transmission. I even have the dubious honour of making a 'prayer' for them.

[I take it this 'prayer' has something to do with the praying you mentioned?]

Right again! That's why you get the big bucks, Commander! On occasion, they line up spokespersons to say something individually in the hope of reaching the faraway ears of this JC dude, or his father. They usually choose people with high-pitched voices. They even make their chief hailers - nearly always men - wear dresses in the hope that JC or his dad might take a shine to them.

[JC's father?]

Yes, holy one. Some guy nobody has met but who apparently has a long white beard like Santa Claus, and can see and hear everything.

[Like me then, stevey?]

Precisely sir, just like you, but with better dress sense apparently. A joke sir, another earthly pleasure I've been practising. But talking of practice, I have a prayer to write! Where is Mindy when I need her?

[Ah, I see you still have a fondness for this earthling lady, stevey...]

She merely helps me concentrate sir. Anyway, I will update you on the ceremony in my next report sir. Perhaps my magical voice will be the one to finally make contact with these godly dudes on Planet Heaven. I'll bring my Orsanian receiver and hope that helps.

But to be frank sir, I'm not convinced by their story. These earthlings aren't too clever - apart from Mindy, of course. Till next week sir - Nanu, nanu!
