Anyone ever done anything like this? It's part of a careers day for the sixth form in the first week back. Still haven't confirmed as not sure what to say....

I'd love to see you spout your thoughts on piracy towards the 6th forumers.

Tell them about your job, the qualifications you needed to get into it, what you enjoy about the job etc etc

What do you do btw?

Career paths after A-levels. There's a few people been invited.

So I've got to give it the big inspirational speech about how I got to be so great:oops:

or something like that.
[mod]#10
One of my old high school teachers has asked me to give a talk in a weekly assembly. Just to go through what I have achieved since leaving school. Most of my school friends are struggling to hold down jobs or they are not in employment. Not blowing my own trumpet but I guess they consider me to be a role model and a great example to people who are in my position about 8/9 years ago...

It will be the first time I have gone back to my old school. I am really excited.

rude, unhelpful and totally unwarranted comment.

Cool. I'm not sure how honest to be.

My uni days were more about the partying than the study and I managed to hit a few pieces of luck along the way.

Not sure I can give them the 'straight edge' talk with a straight face.:?

These teachers sucked....perhaps not:)

Part of me wonders if my english teacher is still mildly attractive....or maybe the paucity of attractive teachers has made me remember her slightly less hagged than she was.

Well...I guess you need to be honest to a degree but know what to say to keep the onlooking lecturers happy. Maybe let them know how important it is to be educated and give yourself a headstart in life but also make them aware that the life of a uni student is pretty fun!

Slightly off topic...it really makes me laugh how so many people go to uni to study and do not actually know what they want to be when they leave and need to look for a job!

Public speaking.....its very easy....

deal with the nerves first.....

you;ve already got your subject for discussion and you know your audience...

interpolate the rest....fill it will meaningful drivil...pad it out with odd pause here and there and side gimmick,.....

most of all make it convincing.....

Job done, dusted and goodnight Vienna....

come on FnF....I thought you more than anyone would be able to deal with this without issue...
#27
They won't care what you have to say anyway...so the content doesn't have to be great, just move your mouth to fill up the time.

I'm a freelance writer although it kinda came together by accident. I don't know if they'll want me to be that honest about how I spent most of my final year at school.

So true. I've come to the conclusion that the best thing you can do at uni is actually work out who you are and what it is that you're interested in. Then start studying it in your free time.

Can you two please confine your 'input' to the other thread please?

Although, your input on this subject would be interesting.

Thanks;-)

Surely you need to talk about your experience since leaving school, different responsibilities etc
