I just turned my laptop on after a few hours of ps3 and thought my laptop was completely bust, everything was black etc. But after fiddeling around a bit i noticed the laptop was booting, it was just so faint and dark i couldnt see. Is this a problem worth fixing or should i just buy a new one? Ive had it for about 3 years but its a Fujitsu siemens 17" and its got a go6800 in it so wasnt planning on upgrading. Anyone got any idea how mcuh it will cost? Or if there is a solution to fix the problem im having?

Thanks

What can I say - there was a flicker and then there wasn't,
Remember that I stood by you in that moment of trauma.

Many laptops have a small switch in the hinge that turns the screen off when it is closed. Check that the switch isn't stuck.

also check that the connector between the two (screen and laptop) is loose..... its just like a plug if its loose it might work sometime and others not

it easy to open up a laptop and screen r the easyest just pops open! (or if popular model type into google *laptop* disasembaly

worth a try usually the function key (marked FN) and the up or down cursors to adjust brightness, but if you got a flicker of light when slamming the lid then most likely a loose connection/or stuck switch.
What laptop is it?

try plugging it into your monitor for your PC, at least that way you will be able to continue to use it whilst you try and sort the problem out.
My mate had the same thing happen to his, but instead of fixing it, it went down the stairs at high speed (twice, as the thing still worked after the first go) and then claimed on the house insurance, they gave him £400 to buy a new one and didn't even ask to see the old one FFS! some people have all the luck

If the screen is faint onthe laptop screen but displays ok on an external monitor (assuming all the simple things are ok) i'd try replacing the inverter in the screen. Replaced one in a spare HP laptop yesterday - fiddly job but the inverter only cost £7.25 from fleabay

thanks guys took it to a shop today he reckons its the inverter. said it will cost 50 quid with labour. its a fujitsu siemens m3438g. i will have a look inside. using ps3 atm which isnt ideal.lol. thanks again

£50 with labour doesn't seem too bad a price. Only found one inverter on fleabay for that laptop which they were asking £29.95 + P&P for.
