My O2 mobile contract on my iPhone is up for renewal this month. I'm on a £35pm contract, but with a 30% discount which I got from O2 Open.

Anyway, I rang them again today to see what deals I could muster from them. I'd previously phoned and was told that the O2 open scheme with 30% discount is no more and cant be renewed. So I think, OK, I'll forget this, I was offered a 40% loyalty discount prior to the iPhone (which they wouldnt give for the iPhone) so I'll go for this angle.

Low and behold, O2 stopped giving any loyalty discount incentives in December.....

Anyone manage to get a decent deal from O2 in the last couple of weeks?

Ironic, since I've provided 5 codes for members here and they're still enjoying the 30% off - and now I can't! But anyway....... If I cant cut a deal and have to go "full price"...... I certainly wont be using O2.

Any good deals around?

Letter? Not heard of that before! This is the first time on any mobile network I've not been offered a good deal for retention.

Well the 2 people Ive spoken to havent been rude, but I would imagine the attitude they have at the mo, will cost them a fair few customers. I've got 2 £35 contracts they'll lose.

Did you get any thing good with Voda? Its my prefered alternative. (T-Mobile and Orange are pants in my house - despite claiming excellent reception.)

Funnily, I'm able to get a "virgin tribe" discount through one of my mates. But to be honest, all they are giving is 2 months free on an 18 month contract. Equates to about 10% which I'm sure I can do better with offers that are open to anyone.

i got 600 mins, unlimited texts, 500mb internet and a free satio for £30 a month. also got £90 quidco too which was an added bonus!
the best o2 could do was match the minutes and texts for the same price a month, he didn't mention anything about internet and wanted to charge me £50 for the phone. he then went onto tell me that quidco where dodgy and i shouldn't use them and that i shouldn't get a satio because it's rubbish and it'll only break (even though he was trying to flog me one too, lol)
i'm really pleased with my satio and i have no issues with it whatsoever, works great :) ...........................silly o2, lol :P

How ironic it would be if your new contract cost £42 and came with a free towel.

Depending on which phone you're going for, Vodafone are currently poor for data as their 'unlimited data' tariff is only 500MB with the next step being 3GB for £15. The Iphone plans are different though, they get 1GB then £5 per 500MB after that.

Can you not try a SImplicity deal?

I tried and failed today Guv. Ended up phoning back and getting put on the iPhone simplicity tarriff for now, with my PAC code being sent next week. Going to get that HTC HD2 deal I think, and try it against the iPhone

Shame you're not with O2 CPW. I've been with them for 6 years. Whenever I have a problem I have one person I speak to and with a direct line (if he's busy I leave a voicemail and he calls back within 15 mins or so).

For 6 years I've been on 12 months free on a 12 month contract, last 2 years they were unable to offer me a free phone and this year they could only do me 18 months @ £5 / month (after cashback) but I do get 500 minutes, 1000 texts and unlimited internet for that so can't complain.

Have a think about the htc hd2 deal, if you went for it you would get 28 days grace!

Hmm. I need data. 500Mb wouldn't be so bad for just the phone. I'm not going to compromise on the phone.Either sim only and continue to use my iPhone, else a 3GS or a HD2. Nothing else interests me. I already have mobile broadband.

The offered me the bog standard £20 deal... thats just £4pm less than I pay now - but for that I got an iPhone thrown in! Its not a good deal! I would have taken this with my 30% discount to make it £13pm without a phone, alas they stopped it last month.

I dont think O2 will be offering anything just yet, but Im sure the lack of retentions will tell them they are getting it wrong.

This is the deal I was looking at to be honest.... but Virgin are pants!

The only people who are going to give you a half-decent deal are cancellations or "retentions" as they call themselves. They change their offers all the time so just keep ringing them and making sure you're speaking with retentions.
#18
IMO, o2 retentions are rubbish now.
I renewed with them coz i couldnt wait to get the hd2 but had I waited a bit longer, i would've gotten a better deal on vodafone for effectively the same amount of monthly cost.

o2 used to do cracking retentions deals but now don't really offer any incentive to stay!

Retentions wont deal with me because I have a "staff discount" contract. I tried to deal outside this, but retentions didnt want to know. They wouldnt even give me a PAC!

Indeed.... hence the thread! Ive had some cracking deals from O2, but expecting me to pay more for a new deal than I'm currently on with my iPhone contract just isnt gonna wash!

The current deal includes the hardware subsidy for the phone, so if there's no phone there's no point carrying on with the tariff - if a phone isn't needed then it would be cheaper to drop down to a cheaper sim-only tariff where you're paying for a phone.

O2 retentions used to be great especially sim only where I could a year's line rental for very little but last time I tried to renew they were hopeless, they wanted £140 more than it would be for a new customer and they couldn't see why I objected to that. They then billed me for a year's renewal after the account was closed, told me to reverse the charge and then send debt collectors after me...sigh

As John says below..... I'm on a £35pm tariff, but paying £24. This included being given an iphone. If you rang and asked for a sim only version for my tariff, it would cost you £20. A month ago, they would have charged me with my discount, £13. You can probably understand why Im not impressed.

Phone companies seem to be worst when it comes to this sort of thing. NTL messed up my account when I left, said I owed them £3 for line rental even though I was already with BT..... So they lodged a bad debt! Didnt even know until I got turned down! Got it sorted in the end.
#29
o2 retentions just don't make an effort anymore to retain you,it's been their new tactic since last sept,

Management decided no more mega deals to keep you,

Maybe they will reconsider when they see the possible renewal contracts they have lost, but for now their stance is,they are the best and bye bye if you want your PAC

Nah not interested. It will revert to pay as you go.

Then you need to inform them, else your contract as it stands would just roll on. Anything inside the 30 days by the time you tell them, will already be an extension of your contract.

Still unsure on what I shall do. I'm definately not going to continue paying the discounted £35 contract (since simplicity for Joe Public is cheaper as its not subsidising my iPhone like this is.) BUT, doing so, reduces my buying power under redemptions by being non contract and less spend. Its a balancing act!

TBH, I'd rather kick them into touch completely and go with Vodafone if they had a decent sim only deal with Data.

I might just let it roll on for now. As the new iphone is bound to be launched in June, and then see what to do there. At least then if I can't afford to keep the contract I can drop it.

But they wont offer that great a deal as Guv was already on a 30% discount, and not making as much money for O2 as someone on a £35+ contract
