I'll be stopping at Gerani in a week or so (about 2 1/2 miles from Platanias). Do you recommend any 'must do's' in that area.

Cheers

In that case re: not driving it should suit you both. Bruges is an almost car-free zone (ie park outside the city and take public transport in, we walked, watch out for the cyclists!).

We were in Belgium for a week a few years ago, stayed at friends' in Antwerp and Leuven. One of the stops was Bruges, it's a nice town to walk around ... oldy (medieval), and if i might say a little deserted in February. It is different from a usual busy city because of the canal through it ... but anyways mussels was high on our food list, goes nicely with beers (higher alcohol content).

Sights:
• The Historic Centre is a UNESCO world heritage site
• Church of our Lady (Onze Lieve Vrouwekerk) has a 122m brick spire (highest in the world?) and the only Michelangelo sculpture outside of Italy. Michalengelo and church about 10 mins, allocate 1 hour if including museum
• Flemish artists from Bruges like Jan van Eyck so you can check them out in Groeninge Museum (closes about 5pm!). I did a bit of art history but when you see these in the flesh they're amazingly delicate
• Basilica of the Holy Blood
• The Belfry (south side of market square).
• Burg (town centre, square, plaza) with little stalls.

Just google for more info. We didn't get a lot of time but remember that it was pretty at night, and you could still get irish coffees after midnight in some places!

Have fun! :)

Went to Barcelona for a week end April, my 2nd time there but for my other half it was 1st time so good results! We were also again in Ireland in May.

Last year was more exotic, we were in South East Asia for 4.5 weeks! Bali for 8 days. Island hopping etc. Totally recommend South East Asia especially if you stay with friends at a base. We were lucky, a friend's apartment was available for the whole duration – 3 mins drive, cab was less than £1 to the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur. Yeah but one of us was native so the other was told to refrain from speaking :giggle:

No plans at the moment for the next few months ... could be a Paris Eurostar break weekend again (± £100 each incl. Eurostar and hotel) and get a few tasty bottles of French wines, or New York (currency exchange is great at the moment but summer is a busy time for work too). Or the Lake District or Cornwall or Devon? Touch and go.
