So we're thinking about having a baby

Is it ever a right time? The mortgage is coming out of its 1.15% discount in March doesn't really push it up that much we can afford the bills and mortgage on my wage alone but we won't be able to do much. We both work at present she earns quite a bit more than me but is sick of her job and wants to get pregnant to get away from it. We're 26-25. How long did it take you to get pregnant also please as she doesn't want a Christmas baby.

Only replies from working parents cheers.

If your honeymoon saga is anything to go by - dont bother
#2
No 'right' financial time to have a baby. Would be more concerned as to whether the relationship is ready for a baby.

Took us about 3 months to get pregnant
[mod]#3
I have 3.............i'll loan them to you for a day to see how you get on. :-D

They are 1, 2 & 5 and will eat anything. All boys
#4
We were 26 when we had our first child, and 27 when we had our second!
Timing is right if it is what you want - there is no perfect time, its all about what you both want.
If you can manage on the one wage, and wifey wants a career break, then why not go for it. Kids are like cars................as soon as you get one, you constantly spend money on it :whistling:

but...you'll get a lot more enjoyment (and stress, it has to be said!) from being a parent :)

lol

Any snow where you are? We're still waiting for it, although if it's bad there i shouldn't have to go to work tomorrow!!

It can take between 3 months for the pill to stop working and some couples take up to 3 years to concieve. Both my children were 6-7 months of trying.

What worries me though is your reason for wanting children, because your partner wants to get away from her boring job!!! FFS this is a life you are considering bringing into the world, that you will be committed to for the rest of your life, not an employment agency

Only a bit last night and this morning so far but it's still settled on the grass. Roads are all ok at the mo though.

I don't live far from Kev Lawrence...........do you want me to see if he'll do a fake snowed in radio forecast for you in the morning??

so she wants a baby to 'get away from work'? if she doesnt like work she should just find another job not have a baby! she will still have to go back after maternity leave.

also you say she doesnt want a xmas baby. surely if she really wants a baby she wouldnt mind when it was born.

i think yous need to rethink about the whole thing

took us a month to get pregnant -lol-tbh Im not sure getting pregnant to get away from a job is a good reason to start a family, but if you feel it is time then its the most magical thing in the world.

I know this may sound naive but we never really considered the "affordability" of a baby, they are expensive but if you both have good paying jobs I say go for it!
#10
There is never a right time, you will always get by. We have 2 children 9 and 2 years old ,when we didn't have much money with the first you just buy clothes ect from cheaper shops now things are a lot better i can buy nicer bits for them, just live within your means.
1st unplanned  and 2 months to concieve 2nd child :p

Good luck

Nice to see someone planning for a kid. From what I've seen here and other places that isn't always the case. best to have a kid earlier in the school year.
#18
did you want a good deal on one?

i am 22 and have 2 children... one 2.5 years and a 9 month old. I got pregnant with my 1st within 3 weeks of eing with my babys dad, so she wasnt planned, either was my boy but i was feeling broody at the time. As you are planning to get pregnant , i would deffo really thin about it strongly and that you are both ready of the stress of children :) it does also put lots of stress on a couple :)
#20
In fairness, you can plan plan and plan and that doesn't mean it will work out.

Getting pregnant to get away from the job - she should try and get another job. Having a baby is twice as hard as having a job - I go to work for the break!!
#21
i wasnt trying for a baby but it took 3years for me to get pregnant, i found out last year and i was 4months gone, so like other people have said theres never a right or wrong time to have a baby unless you really cannot afford to live at the moment wihout one. also i can understand you saying you wouldnt want an xmas baby, my friend had her baby boxing day and i personally wouldnt like to have a baby so close to xmas as i felt so crappy towards the end of my pregnancy plus if i was a child and my birthday was so close to xmas then you got nothing to look forward for the rest of the year lol but also if you want a baby so much then you wont mind when you have one.
#22
Don't think twice or you might regret it
#23
also id say not to plan as such, maybe just stop using protection as if you dont get pregnant by the time you want then that might cause stress between you and your partner, just let nature take its course and it will happen as if you are both stressing about not getting pregnant then that could affect you getting pregnant.

Don't do it,children are the devils spawn!!

We are always falling out, everybody doesn't get on with each other :w00t:

It is never the right time. If you're waiting for the right time, you'll never have children. If you both actually want babies (not just to get some maternity leave!) go for it, and good luck! The only thing they don't teach you at school is what happens if you don't/can't get pregnant. All we were taught is 'have sex - get pregnant' - so oddly this is what we expected. Took several years and several miscarriages... you get the idea. We've three little smashers now, all came along at exactly the worst time - redundancy/new house/new mortgage/swine flu etc. Who cares? Get trying... and again, very good luck to you. :)
