So who will be Christmas number 1?

I heard about the whole 'buy Rage Against the Machine and stop X Factor being Number 1' thing a while ago but didn't think it would work out, now the news are reporting that RATM has overtaken Joe McElderrey's song by over 10% and the bookies have all reopened the books for Xmas number 1.

I've just been on Amazon and bought RATM for 29p just to see if we can get it to number one, it would be great to see Simon's reaction! He's calling the whole thing 'stupid' at the moment lol.

Anyway, who do you think will pip to the Number 1 post?

Gotta be over 40p I think to count towards the chart???
#2
Amazon doesn't count towards the chart.
#3
i thought if you bought a tune it had to be over 40p before it counted towards the charts ???

Edit - same as above but too slow !!!
#4
Don't think it counts if it's under 50p iirc.

Would have thought X Factor will win through
#5
ah fair enough will buy from itunes lol, good info tho!
#6
eithe way the record co. is laughing all the way to the bank as they are both on the same label !
#7
someone has just posted that the Rage song has beaton the X factor song so far
#8
Joe's still no.1 on iTunes chart. The CD single is released tomorrow, so all the housewifes will be buying it then ;)
#9
I still think X Factor will pip it as the CD comes out tomorrow so will gather lots more sales then.

Just like the sense of competition!

Looks like the 29p tracks do count!!!

Amazon.co.uk Music Team says:
We can confirm that sales of MP3s from Amazon.co.uk, including "The Climb" by Joe McElderry and "Killing in the Name" by Rage Against The Machine, count towards the Official UK Charts.

The Official Singles Chart Rules do not specify a minimum retail selling price for the sale of a single to be eligible for inclusion in the Official Singles Chart, however they do specify a minimum published dealer price. This does not affect the ability of a retailer to carry out price promotions and any genuine consumer purchases made as a result of a retailer promotion will be eligible as long as the single meets all other applicable chart rules.

I would rather see something other than x factor be number 1 at xmas but when the choice is Joe or Rage Against The Machine, I'd be happier with Joe at number 1.
Now if Jedward had released 'Let's Get Ready to Rumble' ........
#17
I would like something other than the X factor song to be No 1, not too keen on the X factor song or the RATM song!

I think Joe's song is ok, and I like him as a person, I just think it's a little unfair how Cowell storms the charts with his protege's turning the Christmas Number 1, which used to be prestigious, into a 'sure thing' for the X Factor winner.

I wouldn't mind at all if they released the song at a different time of year, it's just the Christmas Number 1 should be truly competitive for all acts releasing songs that week in my view.

I can just see 'Magic' the Music channel covering the Xmas Number ones of the noughties and it'll be x-fac, x-fac, x-fac, yawn!

I love RATM, i personally would have gone for "wake up" rather than kitno, but, as its xmas, i would have rather it be Slade's Xmas song, and again next year, and next year, lol. just to send a msg to the people that put xfactor on tv, that some of us are fed up with this stuff rammed down our throats every year.

they saying amazon does count but are they making a loss on every 1 sold as the dealer price isnt supposed to be below 32pence......??? yet they are selling for 29p

if this is incorrect taken from the site.....what are the rules exactly?

Digital Minimum Dealer Price £0.40p : Only tracks with a minimum PPD of 40 pence or more shall be eligible for the Official Singles Chart. In the event that a record company has an alternative business model
for the sale of downloads (i.e., one not based on a published dealer price), the price charged to the online digital retailer should not be less than 32 pence per track. OCC will monitor sales to ensure they are
'genuine sales'. Where OCC judges sales not to be genuine, they may be excluded from the chart at OCC's absolute discretion.
