Sodding 25 year age limit / x years driving experience on Driving Job ads

Just contacted Ocado to see if their "4 years driving experience" (I've been driving 3.5) is in any way negotiable as I would like a proper driving job for a while. Nope, of course not.

So many driving jobs have these limits, I guess it's the company's insurance. Some will employ people with 6 points but no one under 25. I'm a couple o' years under the 25 mark and have a clean record so I'm outta luck. I hear the supermarkets don't have limits but apparently none are hiring around here.

So much for "it's your ability not your age" government ads on the radio. :@

Leanne says (09:15):

I think there's some kinda loophole when it comes to driving/operating stuff though, at least that's what I've assumed. But it does seem kind of unfair, I wouldn't mind the opportunity to at least get my foot in the door before they send me packing. :)

it's jsut the insurance that they have, most businesses will have car insurance where only over 25's can drive.

I considered this actually, is going self employed like this worth it? I'm really ignorant about self employment status - aware of the tax form and the risk of becomming ill whilst being self employed but that's about it. Where's the best place to go for advice?

Thanks :friends:
