I used this;

http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/usb-port.php

And the Splinter Cell method to softmod using a USB memory stick as an xbox memory card

I used this method to make windows detect my USB stick as an XBOX memory card so I could transfer the special saves using the action replay software

might be worth a mention that game station have splinter cell preowned for 99p and also dvd playback kits for 99p. the remote is especially useful if running xbmc

at my game station they weren't on display anywhere i had to ask. im also willing to borrow my mod-kit to someone if they pay postage both ways

I absolutely love softmodded XBOXs! I use Xploder + 007; Agent under fire to do the mods.

Almost every room with a TV here has a softmodded XBOX (XBMC Installed) + DVD Remote + WiFi to access my PC. The PC is set up to record anything wanted via a Sky Tuner and then I just stream that out to any TV + XBOX in the house :p

ut the memory car into your control, copy the files to the XBOX, run splinter cell and load the rn linux save game

Then do your backups and install the softmod, when the softmod is instale you can ftp XBMC onto the xbox

It's really easy to do

basically. install action replay software on computer, copy modding files from computer onto xbox memory card. put memory card in xbox, copy files from memory card to xbox hdd. put in games load campaign.

this will launch the installer and from then on its pretty simple. if you did borrow it id send you a link to all the info i used, its on my home computer nad im at work now
#14
Dixons/currys.digital/pc world had copies of xplorer lite for 99p/47p.

It's just a usb to mem card adapter for the pc, so you'll still need a memory card. Along with splinter cell and you are set.
#15
youd only really need the usb cable if for some reason the linux installer wasnt working and you needed to try another one.

Yes all the software is compatible (i.e. evox dash, xbox media center etc) as for the Hard Drive when you put a new Hard drive in you need to back up your current hard drive and eeprom then you use HDM or something like that to create a Boot CD for a pc that has all your XBOX files on it.

You then put your new HD into your PC and run the Boot CD, it wil then corectly partition it and copy all the files onto your new HD. All you then need to do is lock it for use with XBOX and plug it in to your xbox

It's easier than it sounds

whats the largest harddrive the xbox console can handle?
#21
anyone found any of the xbox's at £10 in their local game? Mine doesn't have any - pity, I was going to give this a go since I have a small pile of xbox titles that are compatible with my 360 but not when hooked up to the minitor using the VGA cable. Darn!

can anyone enlighten me how to get xbmc to play sopcast streams? or even better, bbc iplayer?

also, is there a simple guide for how to get an xbox networked with windows pcs (e.g. how to access the pc's hard drive from the xbox etc)? i have three of them now, and i'd love to get them all streaming from all over the house...

i cant get any of the scripts to work with my xbox running xbmc. all of them seem to crash it. has naybody else got any scripts working that they would recommend.

Are you xboxes connected to your network at home?

To use BBC i player you need to download the i player script, as for sopcast i'm pretty sure you can't get an xbox friendly version

To network to a PC the method al depends on what dashboard etc you have, you can find out everything you need to know here;

http://www.chefelf.com/xbox/networking.php

It's a bit of a long technical site but if you have any problems put them here and i'm sure wither myself or someone else will answer them

so what exactly ARE the benefits off soft modding the xbox?? What can you do?

Not in relation to games as I dont care about that. Thanks

Well you can sit it on your network and play basically any audio / video or picture file on your pc on the tv through your xbox, that's it's main use (basically to use it as a home media center)

You can also play backed up games n it and back up your own games to the HD though as you said thats no use to you

ah, excellent! i'll have a good look through that later. my main xbox has the beautiful xbmc as a dashboard, so there don't seem to be any instructions specifically for that here, but i should be able to adapt them somehow.

i think what i recall with sopcast is that you have to run it on a pc and then open the file running on the pc from the xbox to access the stream on the xbox. but as i've never been able to access my pc from my xbox, this has never happened :whistling:

does the iplayer script work then? i just googled it and it seems to say its not working properly these days.

edit: i should say, i have had my xbox online before, just by plugging it into the router and browsing the web using DSL...

ferris are you able to access normal video/audio files on your pc through your xbox?

i haven't been able to get it setup and working properly. i've only had a little play, i haven't really tried to be honest, i was looking for a good guide as everything i've ever done networking-wise has gone spectactuarly wrong and i expected this would be particularly tricky. i can't even get a laptop and a desktop to share files, so i don't imagine this will be easy for me!
#36
you shouldnt need to do anything to the xbox for it to be able to access your files as it auto discovers your SMB network.

Have you set up a home network on your computer you'd like to share the files from?

Just got my xbox :)

im thinking about going and getting a spare, may have to wait till the weekend though
