Hey,

I'm moving abroad soon and have to have my documents legalised, which is fine!
I have been told today before my degrees are legalised I have to get them checked by an solicitor!
Can't make any calls ATM.
Just wondering if anyone on here has any idea how much that would cost!

Havne't a clue how much it would cost but have you thought about a notary....might be more appropriate

Did this for a relative going to Dubai.
Was free because it was our own solicitor.
They stamped, imprinted and signed 4 copies of everything.

From memory I'm pretty sure there's a statutory limit to how much a solicitor can charge for simply signing a declaration (and it's not a lot - maybe less than £50).

In fact a lot of solicitors will do it for free - try calling a few local ones to see if you can just drop in with your documents.

Notaries are likely to be more expensive (although they can probably arrange the legalisation for you)

If the solicitor is needing to check the validity of your degree then they could charge up to 1 hour of their time. Dependant where you are this could be in the region of £144-£198+vat.

However, many solicitors will just sign it and usually charge a standard fee (similar to that of a swear) for about £6-£15.

Dunno if you really require a lawyer for this; if it is merely to authenticate your identity and the fact they are your documents, any person of a professional standing can do this.

Most other professionals aren't too greedy so they may be willing to do it for free, perish the thought.

I've signed a few documents for this reason - all I wanted was a 'thanks' in return.

We had one last week and usually the requirements are to prove that the college/uni is real and that the person has actually studied and passed the course. I dont think, or remember, having to certifty the persons identity. Just the certificate...

Thanks everyone going to try and give a few different solicitors a call and see if I can find one who will do it for free!

Thanks again for your help
