Think my daughter (3) has tonsilitis but can't get to doc's till tomorrow.
Does anyone know of ways to help so she can get some sleep, she has had Calpol but doesn't seem to have had any effect.
Thank you in advance.

There is nothing you can do from what i had. Nothing i could take would reduce the pain (not from the shop anyway). Good for losing weight though, when it becomes to painful to swallow your own spit you aint going near the chocolate.

Daughter is only 3 so don't really want her to be losing to much weight, she's only 34lb as it is.

Hope she gets better soon Mac. Both my girls used to suffer very badly from it and the above is correct in my experience.
Unfortunately not a lot you can do.
NHS Direct for free pro. help.

Check here Mac :)http://search3.openobjects.com/kbroker/nhs/nhsdirect/search.lsim?cs=iso-8859-1&hs=0&sm=0&ha=1054&sc=nhs&mt=0&sb=0&nh=5&qt=tonsilitis

Call NHS Direct if she cant sleep, there are local 24 hour medical centres you can go to, unless you live in the middle of no where.

My son had the same, doctors can give medication to ease the discomfort.

have you tried nurofen for the pain or medised i think that's how you spell it, it might help her to sleep, aww bless her it's horrible when kids are in pain, my little boy is teething and he won't have a dummy (which is a good thing really) and nothing will comfort him x x x hope she's better soon x x

Exactly right.

I've suffered with it a few times, but I'm not qualified to give an opinion.. speak to someone who is.

Try giving her some warm honey in water
Can she garggle? If so, get her to garggle with warm salt-water (she probably wont!)
Otherwise, calpol is your best friend for tonight
The doctor can prescribe antibiotics for you if it is bad enough (penicillin V/erythromycin)

I'd avoid anything with ibuprofen (and aspirin) - if you take them on an empty stomach, you get stomach cramps which are just as painful as the sore throat. Paracetamol based painkillers work better with tonsilitis - other than that, plenty of fluids and TLC! Get to doctors, they will probably prescribe antibiotics if they think it is bacterial tonsilitis (although its often not)...

i suffer with it alot and my mum always made me a warm honey, lemon (and a bit of sugar) drink and that always really soothed my throat til i could get to the drs
hope she feels better, its not nice! x

Morning Hot,
Night was very rough, lots of crying, so i'll call doc's when they open @ 8.30 and get an appointment. second you say it's for your child they seem to find an appointment that they didin't have before when it was an adult, so they are good that way.

Yes it is tonsilitis so we now have penicillin, 4 times a day, calpol 4 times a day and calprofen 3 times a day. and hopefully a happier little girl for her birthday on saturday.

Gosh I'm being nosy aren't I, sorry !! ( I can't stand kids suffering on any level, makes me go all weak. )

Have a good day Mac and a great day tomorrow if I don't catch you before :)

Slightly better night.
Seemed to be not to bad this morning but then was sick all over the bed, so now just lying on the sofa watching Mary Poppins with big sis who has a horrible sore throat so is off school,
Just having family tomorrow, and some friends next weekend when she's better.
