Some advice please/clarity re for selling item that turns out faulty

Hi there

Can someone please clarify something for me, sold a phone on here that was brand new and sealed. When received buyer has charged but phone won't turn on, understandably a refund is required.

Postage to send phone was £5.50, sale was 10.00 in total.

What should I refund to seller? The full £10.00 and they absorb cost of returning phone to me or £10.00 plus cost of returning phone to me.

Rmsd used to send phone, buyer request, that's why postage so high initially.

What do rules say?

Thanks

Sounds like a bargain.

Voted hot.

If its faulty I would say you have to swallow the cost for delivery.

Oops.... Sorry... Have asked for this to be moved to misc

I think the person you have dealt with has also made a thread, I said in that one, and I shall say in this, you should really swallow the cost of postage, however surely it doesn't need to be sent at an expensive rate if the phone is only worth £10?

yep absorb delivery costs.. in future send items of low value using standard royal mail with proof of postage.

I'd normally say swallow the postage, but a phone like that should've cost £1.50 to send, so if he insisted on paying more than the phone's worth in postage, I'd consider it a tad unfair on you to refund him the full figure. SD was totally unnecessary anyway, since he said himself that the phone was only going to be used as a spare.

If you go down the absorbing extra postage costs, pay it and the refund only when you have received the item back. Stops people running off with the refund, postage and product.

So exactly how much do I get back after given back n everything? Can't read your PM as you inter-qouted.

If it was new and tesco branded... couldnt the buyer just take it down to Tesco and give it a go?
or Op forward a receipt on to the buyer to do it.

avoids anyone losing out surely?

But if not, the buyer should return it the same method as the seller has sent it, refund only given on receipt by seller.

Hiya

Sorry, tried to check email before I sent it.

What I think is fair is a refund of £7.00 which would mean you pay the additional cost of sending it rmsd. I would also pay for standard return of phone.

I would pay the postage for returning the phone (at cost, 2nd class standard and you obtain proof of postage). And I would send this via husbands pay pal.

So although you are £3 out of pocket this is due to the phone being posted at rmsd.

I will be out of pocket by £3.00 plus the cost of returning the phone. £3.00 is what I think is reasonable for postage, so it's going to cost me about £5.00 in total and you £3.00.

Sorry to blab on, just want to explain as to why I think it's fair.

Basically you will get £7.00 plus cost of returning phone ( at cost).

I'd still suggest taking it back to Tesco. It's currently listed as £16.97.

doubt you could do that without a receipt,

I'd say OP it is your liability for alll costs if you have sold a faulty item, albeit you had no way of knowing if the item was sold sealed, but I assume you have a record of the imei number and once the item is returned to you and you establish it is faulty you then reimburse the buyer for all costs,

tough, yes, you will lose money but that is not the buyers fault
