Just looked on my online banking and someone has used my card details to make purchases from I-Tunes £144.97 up to now...possibly another £20 to add on yet.

I rang HSBC and explained whats happened,lady cancelled my card straight away and told me to call back on Monday and speak to the Disputes department between 9-5.

She said i would have the £140+ refunded the next working day and then a dispute would be raised with I-Tunes.
Can it be that easy to get that amount refunded??

Hope i do get the full amount refunded as it has left me short for my Mortgage payment next week.

Anyway i checked my I-Tunes account but i have not made a purchase since Jan 2011 and all my details were deleted around the 2nd week of January.

How could this have happened?
And will they refund me straight away?

My account was accessed last week too but nationwide had put a hold on my account before I knew anything about it. Strange thing is, it was only for 79p. Can't remember the name of the "company" though.

I always thought I was secure with my details, a few days before hand I'd had an email from choicesuk, saying my payment for a dvd hadn't went through and could I phone them. I found this strange but checked to make sure that the number in the email was the same as the one on their website and gave them a call. The guy I spoke to wrote down my details, instead of puting the transaction through himself and said his supervisor would do it at the end of the day. Looking back it all seems to fit together but I have no proof.

Could just be coincidence but it has put me off using them again.

I had about £20 worth of what I can only describe as crap music downloaded from my iTunes account. It was hacked but thankfully didn't have a credit/debit card details on it as I'd purchased all my music with an iTunes card.

Apple were really cool about it & I changed my password etc. Seems to be on the rise, this is at least the 2nd thread on it today.

It seems my card details have been used on another account.

Someone used my card to buy Vodafone top ups in December, only £60 but it was annoying! I bank with the Halifax and the money was back in my account the next day so I think yours should be too.

I'm not sure if you are aware, but the company could have their ability to accept card payments withdrawn for this. New standards called PCI compliance have been brought in which specifically prohibit this type of practice. Companies have a responsibility to securely store your card data, and encrypt it if it is to be used later ( e.g when they dispatch the goods) the employee, and certainly his manager should have been aware of this. Possibly a complaint is in order to remind them of their responsibilities?

same thing happened to me... on 22nd someone bought o2 and orange top up all for £200. My bank has suspended my account and the card. Didnt know this until 2 days ago when i wanted to make payment and it didnt go through.

Just checked my account... money is refunded... and the detail shows ORANGE, DARLINGTON GB. oO

I'm sorry I needed to buy a few sat-navs and I love a good play with angry birds and cut-the-rope! I was going to pay u back i swear!!

Had same thing happen to me right after Xmas. Got stung for £350. Had a warning thread I'll try and resurrect as can see it's still happening.

Thanks for the information. Although I was uncomfortable with how it was dealt with, I didn't know that for sure that it was wrong. I will send them an email and make them aware. Thanks again.

Just had the whole £144.97 refunded to me,was told by the Fraud Team that they have had hundreds of calls regarding I-Tunes charges.
So be warned!!

I`m going to use I-Tunes vouchers from now on.

Plus another £20.15 had been used because the stupid woman from HSBC did not cancel my card when i rang on Friday,had to call again to have that refunded too.

Had a similar thing in January...my bank (Santander) contacted me to check on suspicious transactions...someone had purchased £60 of Vodafone top ups using my card details
Bank needed 5 days to investigate then i got the money refunded thankfully
