Someone at my halls may have stolen a parcel for me today

I say halls but its a old building not owned by uni with like 36 bedrooms.

Anyway I was in class till like 5.30 today and came back knowing I had a parcel delivery(though didnt know if it was signed for)

Got back no parcel, then checked online but it said delivered and the name of the person who signed.

I checked with the warden and no one by that name lives here!

Whats the best course of action?

best course of action for you is to stop selling and buying, as you have no luck in any form, i'd have given up a long time ago!

call the company to follow it up
#2
in future always get stuff posted to your house address not uni halls.

I am so, so sorry but............................................. pmsl

Your first port of call should be the delivery company, they shouldn't have let someone else sign for it in a shared place of residence.

Not necessarily true.

RM deliver to addresses, not people. Not sure about other carriers.

I never understood why people think that since I have loads of great times but people just focus on the bad, im sure everyone else has a similar amount.

man, that sucks, you shouldn't have got it delivered there, go around asking, someone must know something, if you're lucky someone will grass the culprit!

Maybe it because you post threads about all your unfortunate happenings!

Its just a though!

Because I only have one or two unfortunate happenings in a week or a few a month and no one else on the forum writes about a problem?

Well, all you are doing is responding to the people that are being negative, so the people that have tried to help you in this thread(who you haven't even acknowledged) won't bother next time.

I'd still recommend it as the first port of call especially as carriers are normally aware of larger student residences.

yeah I read that too.
I would give DHL a ring and explain the situation and see what they say. Have you a notice board in a hallway or anything? perhaps you could put a sign up with the persons name asking them to hand it back...name and shame

bella, i dont think they are going to have used their real name hun
#23
id try to get them to describe the guy they gave it too (long shot).
Also, you have the signature of someone - maybe recognise handwriting (again long shot)
Ask for the time when they delivered it, then check out who could be at the halls at that time and look for the nasty one :D.
#24
Saying that though I think the landlord has CCTV at front door meaning when the person left they could see them.
#25
It was the Butler!
It's always the Butler!

Possibly, not being nasty or anything but the amount of drug users in our house is most likely higher than the ones that dont, that and the fact the landlord came yesterday and was so worried about the smell of cannabis everywhere that he brought a coucill worker round(or so he said the person was) that hes letting the police do random raids.
#29
i agree on that one. Cannabis students prob used all their maintence and loan already, so they are probably already resorting to stealing. Not pointin at the cannabis user btw, just that it is a possible incentive. I mean, apart from a sick joke by your mates, I can't think of anything else (unless someone is helpin you out obviously [butler?], but that seems way too unlikely by the matter of it)
#30
Wow, sounds pretty tricky. However when this situation sorts itself out, why don't you use a different address eg parents, family address for your deliveries - you are going to have all sorts of problems if you don't nip this one in the bud. Good luck.
#31
get up early and ask the postie
#32
This happened to me - Do what I did - speak to the delivery company - it's their responsiblity and the driver will describe or identify the person that they gave it too - They then claim on their insurance or you can get the police involved.
In my case after the driver described the person, I had a good idea of who it was - I then approached that person and told them if they knew what had happened. I told them that the driver was able to identify the person who signed for it and that they could leave it outside my door in 5 mins no other questions asked else I was calling the police.
As if by magic it turned up.
Good Luck!
#33
I'm sorry but this confirms that you are balancing out everyone who enjoys a yoghurt. Sorrrryyyyy..
#34
Actually if it was handled by DHL or any company, i think that stolen goods are entitled to compensation? Anyways, that should only be used as a last resort as I hear that it is a tedious thing to do.
#35
Well spoke to the warden again and he said he was working in the entrance hall all day from 11am to 5pm and no one came to deliver anything.

So either DHL's lying or someone signed for it on the stairs and took it to room with them.
#36
What was in the parcel btw?
#37
Who was this " someone " that stole the parcel for you?:)

It wouldn't be the first time that couriers have signed for a parcel and not delivered. Hopefully you'll find your answer when you call them.

Call me a cynic but if it was a thief, they would have probably had a look at what it was quite soon after getting it.
