Someone keyed my car last night :-(

Went to see my mate in Bristol last night and as I drove home today I filled up at the petrol station only to find some **** had keyed the entire length of the passenger side of my mini. This sort of thing has never happened to me I don't know what to do?! I've only had the car a few months and it took me about 6 years to save enough to money buy :-(

You could report it to the police but i don't think they'll be able to do anything apart from give you an incident number or something like that. Depending on how deep the scratch is you could just use something to cover it up or might have to get someone to do it for you and claim from insurance.

Had this happen to me too (twice). There is not much you can do. Until you can get it repaired find a wax crayon of a similar colour and rub it into the scratch, it will prevent rust forming.

I sympathise with you, I had partners ex play noughts and crosses on mine for months! really pee's you off, unfortunately mine would need a re-spray to fix but I'm sure if you went to a paint shop they'd be able to sort, not cheap though

Yeah that's the thing, I don't want to spend a lot of money to have it resprayed when it'll probably get scratched again. I'll use the silver wax crayon thing I have but it doesn't half stand out. I'm totally gutted. It's can't be worth making an insurance claim on it either.

You could always fill it and use T-Cut to drag the paint from around the scratch into it. It wont be professional, but it does work. Remember to put a lacquer on when it is dry.

thats harsh mate... I know this sounds common sense and sometimes can't be avoided but always try and use secure car parks.

It was at my friend's house. It's a new housing estate, I've stayed there before and it seem fine but I guess being a city it's gonna attract those kind of people.

All new estates have to give 15% (I think) of the houses to local housing association so they will ALL have ****ers who claim the doll.

Bloody scumbags,,,

Well take comfort in the notion of 'what goes around comes around' bud...and it could've been much worse...also if you use a car regularly...at some point its going to get a scratch here and there...Maybe get a quote from a reputable paint/body shop to just 'touch in' the scratch... you can hardly notice them if it is done well... Ask your BMW Mini dealer who they use for paint/body work...and get a quote.

Sorry to hear that. Sadly, door scratches etc. can require the entire side to be resprayed. Alternatively, a bodyshop will want to very finely sand it out, but it will still be present. A DIY fix is to use a coloured scratch remover.

You also get hard working folks getting back on their feet after hard times in local housing association accommodation. Don't tar them all with the same brush dude.

Sorry to bump an old thread but figured it saved me starting a new one! I did get some quotes but as it was 3 panels and was deep enough to require a complete respray, they all wanted £500 - £600 and I couldn't justify spending that kind of money.

Started to get tired of hearing people mention to me how awful it looks so decided to have another look and a friend who had a car accident a few years ago recommended me to a small local body shop repair place (didn't even know it existed) and they were happy to do it for £250. Took it in this morning and fingers crossed it'll be looking good as new!

Yeah I will! Though I could just show pics before it was scratched :p Theoretically it should look as good as new. I'd have to wash and wax it first though, hasn't been done properly since it was keyed

OK picked up the car on Thursday, ended up paying £290ish because of VAT... colour match was perfect and you wouldn't know someone had keyed it.

However, as there were a lot of stone chips on the bonnet and some had started to rust, I asked the guy to respray the bonnet as well. Well all I can say is I don't think he took the panels off the car. The chrome grill seems to have primer on it or the chrome has been sanded off in places. Also, there is an area the size of a tiny raindrop which doesn't appear to have been resprayed. Quite obvious when you point it out to people but overall job is very good. Not good as new but I'm happy considering it was done half price.

I've phoned the garage up regarding this and they've said to take it in Monday for them to have a look but they won't be able to fix it any time soon (it took 3 weeks before they could respray the car before).

I washed the car today but didn't take any pictures because I didn't bother polishing it. It must be looking pretty good though as I've already had a nice comment from a stranger about my car :)
