Have a car for sale on Friday-ad website & received an email form a guy in Scotland asking best offer. I gave him my best offer and told him i'm in SE England so would be some way to travel. I received this in response:

Hello Louise,
Thanks for the information and sorry for the delay, I am sorry for the mistake made on my previous email. I want to purchase the car for my son as a gift, the offer is okay by me for £900. So I would like you to ignore other offers and hold it for me and I will offer you an extra £50 only if you can keep it for me and I will come for the pickup or I send my Freight Agent. I do not want you to be stressed, so id rather sends my Freight Agent to your location for pickup. Please give the information i have requested in order to make the payment:

(1)Cheque payable to:
(2)Home Address:
(3)State:
(4)Post code:
(5)Country:
(6)Telephone number/mobile phone:

Payment will be sent to you immediately i get the above details. You should be expecting a U.K Bank Draft including the shipping fee to cover the shipping expenses on me because i still have other pick up in Surrey. The reason is being that i couldn't issue out a separate cheque's on a single transaction like this due to my company policy, as soon as the cheque clears in your bank you deduct yourmoney including the £50 as compensation to hold the ad, then the rest would be sent to my freight for the pickup in your location. I hope I can trust you with my rest balance to arrange for my freight.
You can reach me on +447024083241 if you have any question.
Thanks
Ken James

Any opinions appreciated but it seems fishy to me

Looks dodgy, why is he asking for a 'state', if he was british it would be referred to as a 'county'

I would say dodgy, the pigeon English looks like similar wording to what ebay scammers would use.

Advise its cash on collection only and decline I would say, why would anybody legitimately buying it want to offer an extra £50, that is a known scam method

Do not give this person any of your personal details I say

Few things.

He says he's in Scotland yet his address isn't.

He goes on about cheques and then mentions banker's drafts.

Who buys a car without looking at it?

This is just so dodgy sounding:

(2)Home Address:
(3)State:
(4)Post code:
(5)Country:
(6)Telephone number/mobile phone:

State/Country - WTF?

Avoid this joker.

He hasn't said the amount other than that he'll pay £900 for the car plus an extra £50 to hold it, which is -£45 to the original asking price. It also says there will be the payment included for the freight to pick it up....

Think I'm gonna take everyones advice and just ignore anymore emails along those lines
And a huge thank you to everyone....but I have run out of rep!

they're lots of dodgy people on gumtree these days, when my bf applied for some job, he was scheduled a phone interview which he missed cos his phone was off cos we went to the cinema and forgot bout the interview, next thing he gets a reply next day saying his phone interview was successful and he had to pay some money before moving to the next stage of the interview i knew it was a scam immediately, people should take note and be careful
also i've replied ads for properties which turns out to be scams i can spot them a mile off cos i've been scammed before, when i was 18 lost £85, then i watched the Real life hustle and saw the exact scam i fell for and i promised myself i would never in my life get scammed again
lol it hurt a lot at that time cos it was my birthday money i just turned 18 and my bro gave me £80 to buy anything i wanted, i told him i lost the money

when they start asking for unnecessary personal info and ask you for money upfront especially with western union be cautious lol

That's why they do it, it makes the buyer sound respectable/legitimate.

Definite scam, steer well clear...
