Sometimes, it's hard to be a woman!!

Blimey, am i getting it in the ear!!

I've come in the spare room with a kitkat, laptop, bottle of pepsi & some anadin for a bit of peace!!

Cutting it short - 'er indoors is still pregnant - She's actually due 5th July-ish but she went into 'slow labour' 2weeks ago!

Then all things came to a screeching halt & since then the poor cow has been to hell & back - swollen feet/legs, back pains, nausea, pains everywhere else.

And boredom- she's used to working full time but is now off. Our familys live 100's miles away (thank god) & all our mates work so she's at home alone most of day. I also work some evenings/weekend as well which doesnt help.

Tonight the inevitable happened- mood swings. Don't want to sound unsympathetic but I think i'm better off out of her way for a bit.

She's (we've) tried everything to 'hurry' things along - she had me driving over speed bumps at 2am last night & we have even upped the obvious 'other activity' but to no avail.

My boss recommended castor oil & orange juice cocktails!
The midwives where we live don't seem much help- but I'm a bloke & i don't suppose my opinion on that counts for much. All i know is that surely they should be there for some kind of support rather than a once a fortnight 10 minute appointment if you're lucky.

The baby is our 2nd (& last) - our 1st now being 10 yrs old. I have discreetly pointed out we are a tad older & things will be different but I nearly got a telly in my face.

Anyway, I think I'm tapping the keys too loud cos i can hear movements so I'm off to hide.

Keep you posted if/when she finally pops the melon.

Col.

edit - ps - do you reckon i should ask her if it would be ok if i nip out for a couple of pints??

at a time like this everyone's gonna say you both shd be there for each other but yes some distance for a couple hours would prolly ease the tension ;) just make sure you do everything she asks (comfy stuff) before u go, otherwise you'll never hear the end of it ... *hehe

bring the moby and make sure the phone is on vibrator and u will respond to her. dont come home too late tho. and be nice and v patient, it will help and she will appreciate it one day after the birth. it's no fun carrying all the weight alone.

---edit
it's really how you two can work it out. i know OH and i will prolly ask for time out. but make sure you fit to drive too -- sod's law!

castor oil is not wise, and will be very obvious when baby arrives

should your baby come out with the cord wrapped round its throat, being covered in oil is not going to help with the situation
#8
Curry is alleged to work too, or something spicy at least!

Good luck col, and let us know when the concussion wears off!

Just wait - don't do anything. Madness to even think of 'hurrying things along'. Take it easy. Col your role is just to be there. That's it really . Oh and do what you're told - straight away, preferably before you're even told to do it. Ask for lists of things that you might have to do. Take extra special care of your older one. Absorb stress. Think of Hampshire.

I know - you're right - could be the stress of the forthcoming move as well 'cos she likes to be organised for such things & we cant do much at the mo.

I'll take your list idea on board - sounds good.

Thanks for the ears guys - i feel a bit de-stressed already which makes me feel better prepared to help her more.
Promise to keep yers updated.

Oh and you've got all the music to take the stress out of any situation haven't you?? :-D
'Sometimes it's hard to be a woman' - indeed.

Dont forget the broody and moody population on here (ie 90% of the females) will want (or should that be expect/demand* delete as applicable) to see pictures!

No worries sassie - i know what you meant & tbh, its very helpful for a different & objective opinion like yours, because folk who know us more personally are looking at it more emotionally & encouraging her to 'hurry along', which is fair enough but risks are risks and the last thing I want is for anything silly to happen. 'specially for the sake of a few more days if you know what i mean. I sound really unsympathetic towrds her there but i don't mean to be.

all will be good i'm sure.

I can't believe someone on here said the baby will have oil on it if she takes castor oil! It will give her the trots which can start the labour, but please don't try it.....my mum tried it with me and was in and out of hospital w ith false alarms for two weeks!!( I was five days late).

"since then the poor cow has been to hell & back" .... that's abit mean isn't it.
She must be lonely and bored for sure, things won't get any easier once the baby arrives ... you'll both be snappy from the lack of sleep!
I heard bitter lemon, the fizzy stuff in bottles is supposed to bring it on, or rasberry tea?

Good luck anyways, always nerve racking the last few weeks of pregnancy!
I have it on good advice that the raspberry (I thinks its raspberry) tea is supposed to do the trick. Bitter lemon did it for me .. I was addicted to it in the last few days of my pregnancy. :)
I didn't really have food cravings - I craved the smell of Dettol!
#29
Dettol - euurgh!
Someone else told her about the raspberry tea thing but I couldnt see any in Morrisons ( our largest 'local' supermarket.)
She had a thing about cream eggs at first & that was about it. Each to their own eh?
#30
The only useful thing to do with oil......

is a massage :w00t:
#31
i thought this was going to be a joke
#32
buy her lots of lovely little gifts, both cute and usefull...keep them in a bag and when she gets grumpy or moody or sad pop one out to remind her how much u love her,,,,nothin makes it hurry mine was 14days late n nearly had to be induced!
#33
Baby will come when he/she is ready KC, the last few weeks can be stressful as 'us' humans get so impatient & hate waiting for anything let alone a beautiful new baby ..... just do exactly what she wants for the next few years or so & all will be fine! only joking !! wishing you both lots of luck ..............
#34
Get her to eat a curry - that will get things shifting!!
#35
sex???
#36
its rassberry leaf tea thats supposed to help but really should be drank from week 36 so not much use now lol
You could try fresh pinapple it containes enzymes that are supposed to hurry things along, as do certain... err....male fluids but I REALLY wouldn't suggest that if she seams grumpy!!!!!!!!!

that all said baby will turn up when its good and ready.

Good Luck
#37
Like jennybubbles says, raspberry leaf tea, FRESH pineapple, hot curry, and sexy time. Sperm contains prostaglandins that are 100 times more powerful than the gel they use to induce you with!
Which hospital are you having baby at?
#38
Hope the photos referred to are of the cleaned up baby rather than the event!!

Had enough when little Miss M arrived - cord around the neck etc but the midwife dealt with it no problems. Remember the wife suggesting I better get some kip the evening of the day she was due and all happened in the small hours. Birthday is 13 jun too so be careful about missing the fottballl final on Sunday.

If it is a boy he may turn up to watch (you could make him a LFC fan so he supports the scorer of the winning goal) but if it is a girl she may turn up just to interfere with the footie. I was very close to missing Eng v Scotland in 96 but she knew better even at a minus age!!

Good luck and hope all goes well.
